Lady Gaga doesn’t have “respect,” what she has are lofty connections that allow her to network the industry. Learn the difference. She is currently popular and that is why she is flocked to the way she is. Even if Madonna didn’t have industry “respect” early in her career, what she *did* have was huge record sales (larger than anything Gaga has seen), bigger hits, a bigger legion of fans and more public influence/infamy.
When Madonna was at the same point that Gaga is now, she was still peaking commercially and her albums were averaging 20-25 million in sales. Gaga, on the other hand, averages less than half that much and just saw her latest album not do as well as the one that came before it. In 2011, she was massively upstaged by a non-flashly overweight singer who didn’t relay on gimmicks, socio-political pandering and overzealous promo. Now Gaga seems to be on the cusp of a
commercial backlash. That wasn’t the case for Madonna when she was just 2-3 studio albums in. Give me Madonna’s first four years over Gaga’s first four any and every day of the week, and in the meantime you can keep that “Respect” you speak of.
As far as Madonna copying Marilyn goes, try harder son. Madonna made a sparse few music videos paying homage to Monroe, while she openly admitted to idolizing her and other fashionistas of that past era. Unlike Gaga, however, Madonna didn’t mock Monroe down to her toothpaste, or let her idolization of her overwhelm her entire body of work. Nor did she make a career out of trying to follow in her footsteps verbatim. Hell, Marilyn wasn’t even a pop star. She was an actress, for the most part. And if nothing else, Marilyn was dead; at least Madonna wasn’t trying to bite off the works of someone who was still commercially available and able to continually present their image/ideas. Madonna always had an attitude, style, spirit and swag that was *all* her own, is present at *all* times and it tends to significantly alter whatever she may “copy” from others to the point where the work becomes ultimately ‘Madonna.’ Gaga doesn’t. She adds nothing distinctively “her” to her emulations. That’s the difference between paying homage to/being inspired by previous works, and just plain being a copycat. So null & void on that defense. Apples and oranges.
Your comments about Madonna’s age, meanwhile, were frankly ignorant, petty and completely insignificant. Only someone who isn’t enough years removed from potty training would be immature enough to resort to making ageist comments. One day you’ll be Madonna’s age, and when that happens some young idiot who doesn’t know his head from his ass will condescend you for it and you’ll deserve it.
Finally, as far as Madonna allegedly not being nice goes…meh. You don’t know her personally to be able to testify as to how “nice” or how “jealous” she actually is. Even if Madonna isn’t nice, who cares? I’m guessing that you haven’t been personally affected by her alleged nastiness, no? Haha. What else was she supposed to do? Sit there and say I’m more talented than Gaga? I can sing better? I can write better? I am better.
Please. Gaga is better. She’s younger and like Gaga said it, “I have that fire in my belly.”
Madonna is through. She’s lost her old fans because she continues to try and take the younger audience, and fails continuously.
And now she lost tens of thousands of people who were going to buy her album.
Because if she hasn’t gotten the hint from her previous works. She’s not RELEVANT anymore. Especially since Gaga is putting out new material that is her return t- hit-making.
