Fans may recall the last time powerhouse vocalists Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera shared a stage was the 2011 Grammys in tribute to Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.
Now, the divas are teaming up to honor another musical monarch – Queen of Disco Donna Summer…
Indeed, it was announced today the ‘Spotlight’ and ‘Dirrty’ singers would be lending their signature sounds to one of Summer’s greatest hits as she is finally being inducted into the prestigious ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’.
Reports indicate more performers and inductees will be unveiled in the coming days. Tickets for the Los Angeles-based ceremony go on sale to the public Feb. 1, but for those unable to attend, the show will also broadcasted live on HBO May 18.

Will Lip-Gate Hurt Beyonce’s Brand? Of Course Not.
After looking at this morning’s news headlines, one might have thought Beyoncé was the musical equivalent of Lance Armstrong. The tabloids in New York reported that she lip-synced the national anthem at Barack Obama‘s inauguration, with the Post labeling the performance “Sham-elot” and the Daily News declaring Jay-Z‘s wife the “Star-Spangled Scammer,” both on their front page.
It seems likely that Beyoncé did indeed lip-sync the anthem. According to the New York Times, the Marine Corps confirmed that she was merely moving her mouth as a backing track played–but later backed off that statement. Then again, NPR ran a piece quoting a British audio engineer who thought Beyoncé sang over a pre-recorded track. The singer’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from FORBES.
So, guilty or not, will ‘Lip-Gate’ hurt Beyoncé’s brand? Of course not. Some of the most celebrated singers in the world have endured lip-syncing controversies, from Whitney Houston to Britney Spears to Janet Jackson. They’ve survived.
“I think America looks for reasons to discredit and degrade its own,” says Grammy-winning producer and performer David Banner. “It’s not that serious. It would be different if the talent wasn’t there at all.”
This isn’t blood-doping. It’s a musical practice that, though perhaps regrettable, is commonplace and doesn’t hurt anyone. Even classical stars Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman mimed their performances at Obama’s first inauguration due to extremely cold weather conditions, as did the Marine Corps Band this time around.
Vocal instructor Ilana Martin, who’s coached artists from Sean Garrett to Diddy, says there’s nothing that prevents someone from being able to sing when cold, unless they’re shivering. There are some aspects of Beyoncé’s performance, however, that would prevent her from being at her best: most artists need to be singing at full voice 15-30 minutes before going onstage, and that appeared impossible given the setup at the inauguration. But Martin doesn’t see any major consequences for Beyoncé’s image.
“I don’t think anything can hurt the Beyoncé brand,” she says. “It’s kind of like the McDonald’s brand–it’s too good to be hurt by one incident.”
And she’s got too much company. Martin estimates that 25% of performers use something called a ‘magic mic’ that produces a hybrid of live and prerecorded sound, with the latter fading in and out as the volume of notes sung into the microphone changes.
“You pre-record, sing some notes, the engineer mutes some, and it’s literally a mixture of you and your recording,” says Martin. “The same way auto-fill fills in a sentence or spell-check corrects your spelling, this corrects your singing.”
It’s fairly likely that Beyoncé used a device like this, which would explain the back-and-forth over whether she was lip-syncing or not. Though her Super Bowl performance will doubtlessly be followed more closely now, don’t expect the controversy to have a long-term impact on her career.
“Milli Vanilli never recovered from their lip syncing debacle, but Beyoncé is a completely different situation,” says publicist Susan Blond, president of Susan Blond, Inc. “Beyoncé’s talent is so huge, she is absolutely adored, and the world will see it for the logistical nightmare it was.”

imo christina can easily handle ‘she works hard for the money’ (no really high notes to strain for) not to shade jhud but anything she can do christina can do as well. both are great singers but sound kinda shouty and straining at times.
