Peep these snaps of ‘Only U’ singer Ashanti out and about in New York City yesterday.
Snapped walking a trio of furry friends, the former ‘Murder INC‘ first lady hit the city in glamorous fashion, two years after the release of her single ‘The Woman You Love’, pulled from her long awaited album, ‘Braveheart‘.
Of course, while some fans doubt this album will ever see the light of today, we sure will represent the majority when we say we can’t wait to hear whatever Ms.Douglas releases this year.

As long time fans of Ashanti, wouldn’t it be great to see her back on top?
Seriously, though poor management has seen fail to capitalize on winning streak of yesteryear, there’s no reason she can’t soar back to the top if she gets her brand together.
Yeah, while do we do understand her desire to go the independent route for the sake of completely owning that brand, she should know better than anyone why a major deal would be far more beneficial to her come back.
For, what good is collecting all of the profit is that profit is all of nothing…as will be the case if her Camp make the mistake of thinking they can launch a campaign without the full backing of a major label who have the means to truly make her happen again.
A label, with the means to secure her presence on radio, cover all her expenses and leverage the power they already hold with outlets to ensure she is given preferential treatment when it comes to booking media appearances and award show gigs.
If achieving this means signing a ’360′, we’d say its a far sweeter alternative to spending the rest of her career trying to push a career many have already written off as dead and buried. Though that’s an unfair estimation of her current situation, it is a possible fate if the right moves aren’t made in the coming months.

Stop trying to force a major deal on her. I’m sure she would gladly take one that didn’t insist on controlling all aspects of her career and all a percentage of every profit she generates…whether it was related to their involvement or not. IMO any artist who signs a 360 deal is a lunatic IF said 360 deal isn’t worth at least 100 million. And we all know that no label was offering her that much to sign on the dotted line. Truth of the matter is, even under a major label, the chances of her having a substantial “comeback” is slim. So why not go at it independently, so that she can at least control the limited commercial success she’s likely to have. If Ashanti had signed a 360 deal with a major label, she’d be stuck in limbo for years, while slowly going broke.
Speaking of independent labels…both “Thrift Shop” and “Harlem Shake” are independent releases, and both songs are basically taking the music industry hostage right now.
Major labels are good for radio promotion and CD distribution, but with since Billboard foolishly decided to factor in bullshit like streaming and YouTube views into their chart formula, the time for going the independent route is basically now.
