Britney Spears Teases Retirement After Vegas Run

Published: Thursday 5th Dec 2013 by Sam

Retirement.

In recent years, it’s a topic routinely brought up following most Britney Spears performances; and a topic debated even more so these days following the singer’s lack of promotion for new album ‘Britney Jean’.

Reps for the star’s upcoming Las Vegas residency ‘A Piece Of Me’ claim that the nature of the star’s deal means she is unable to perform anywhere in the US during the show’s two-year run. Not any award show, not a tour. Nothing. Much to the disappointment of fans.

Yet with “disappointment” being the general consensus anytime Spears takes to the stage, even sects of her loyalest supporters believe it best she takes an indefinite break.

Interestingly, the big “r” seems to be on Britney’s mind too. Peep her new interview with Extra’s Mario Lopez after the jump…

Legit or a promo ploy to whip up interest in ‘Jean’ – which is set to debut with the lowest first week numbers of Spears’ career? After all, branding it as Britney’s potential “last album” creates a buzz and urgency around the project that its preceded singles ‘Work B*tch’ and ‘Perfume’ could not.

In any case, we’re all for a bow out of the spotlight – if the 32-year old isn’t able to up her performance ante from what its been in recent years. Do we expect  her to have the agility of 10 years ago? We’re inclined to say “no”, but in an era where the Beyonce‘s of the world are actually getting better with time, the actual answer is “why not?”. Indeed, many forget that Madonna was 31 (and had been around for more than 10 years) when she released ‘Vogue’. Why should the rules be any different for Britney?

Yes, yes, she’s had quite serious personal battles. But, the fact remains: the music industry is a business. And a competitive one at that. As such, if Britney can’t deliver, maybe it’s time to call it a career.

I don’t think she has any control over her career so unless her team is telling her she is done, then girl….you will continue to crank out albums with losers like Will.i.Am.Irrelevant with no promo and get up on that stage in Vegas and try your little heart out.

  2. Mrs. Carter December 5, 2013

I think retirement is a good option for her. Brit has offered all she has. She will end up tarnishing what 2000-2006 Britney achieved. Her albums seem to get worse with every release. No Shade

  3. cake like lady gaga December 5, 2013

Yes, homegirl better hurry up and meet TROLLyonce and Lana Drunk Ray at FLOP Central, where they will all take the train to Irrelevance

Yea the Vegas was to dumb idea. It’s time to call it quits, the people are over her, the fans are out of excuses. We all wanted, waited for the “old” Britney to come back, but time after time, album after album, we realized that the old B is gone and she’s never coming back.

We should be glad that she came out on top after the 2005-2007 drama. She made a comeback, but she never came back.

Sad, Janet is in her 40s and can still put on a shoe.

Hmm…let’s be real here..this may be a perfect option. If Britney did a world tour, tickets may not sell well. Britney Jean is a garbage album with filler tracks at best. Now a Britney “Fairwell” tour may just be what’s needed. She can’t performance shock us and it’s just overall not working anymore. She had an incredible run. But maybe just a few years to be inspired again is what she needs

She’s been retired since 2006 so what other retirement are we talking about?

  7. h2o December 5, 2013

    Yes

Great! Its about time, she was never a vocalist and now that her performance skills are gone there really isn’t a reason for her to be in the spotlight.
Britney has proven herself, she has sold her records and made her impact. She has created a legacy that plenty of people would give vital organs for.
I’m ready for new talent anyway, not just on the Pop front but R&B,Rock,Country,Jazz etc…
    Good Luck Britney

I´ve been saying it for the longest time: she needs an “official” retirement. She will be happier. When you let not that talented people become so successful this is what happens.

  10. Motivation December 5, 2013

She is one of the greatest Pop icons of all times, she is a major force in the music business, she sits there with Michael Jackson and Madonna in that area, reserved to very few. Madonna is ambitious, she didn’t care to follow the same winning safe formula, her main goal was to look forward, even if nobody understood what she was doing and she succeeded, hence that’s why when we look back at the Erotica era for example, we see it as an innovative, an ahead of its time music/message’s material, another main factor is that Madonna is her own boss, most Pop stars can’t say that, Britney’s one of them, she don’t believe in herself anymore, her personal problems has won over her, she doesn’t have the ambition she once had, Beyonce wants to be better, that’s why she works so hard, until Britney falls in love with music and fame all over again, she won’t be the same, i think she could take a few years off, raise her kids and then make a big comeback like many actors/musicians has done in their career, sometimes a retirement is just a way to live a much normal life which could end up in wanting to return to be the star they once were, Demi Moore comes to mind, Britney has been working since a very young age, it is normal for her to wants to experience that feeling of being just a normal girl, far away from the pressure to always prove herself as Britney Spears.

    Weak h**.

  12. Yolo December 5, 2013

To be honest she doesn’t even seem ready for Vegas. I was watching an interview with her doing a video countdown for 4music and she was off the planet.

  13. RoyalKev December 5, 2013

Britney is a Pop Queen! There’s no denying that. Her accomplishments are huge and rival the “supreme divas” of the industry. I just think her heart isn’t in it anymore. She seems tired and bland lately. If she walked away tomorrow I would not blame her one bit. She left her mark, made her money and has achieved more than many of her peers. I think if you’re a true fan that love her, you’ll encourage her to leave.

  14. Greg December 5, 2013

Damn retiring @ 30 something. That’s early. I remember when fellow diva icons like Janet & Madge was still going strong @ 30 and beyond with their best work ever to come out from that part of their life. I think the problem with Britney and Beyonce, their both currently stall. Their stuck on the creative side, instead of advancing & going deeper, they’re stuck trying to recreate wat they done in their prime.

  15. Jhud stan December 5, 2013

    Good because she f****** sucks

  16. idgi December 5, 2013

“More dancing” I thought her and her people said more singing and singing live every show? You can’t dance “hard” and sing at the same time well you can but it won’t be in tune…hmmm. If she does retire then she’s going out a legend, from a Disney girl to pop princess she’s had a hell of a ride. I wish her the best

  17. FreeBreezy December 5, 2013

    Hopefully Beyonce also retires
    #bye

  18. NT December 5, 2013

I’ll be seeing her in Vegas , but i don’t think a retirement is such a bad idea.

  19. FAF December 5, 2013

Aww this is sad she’s still so young but she’s achieved so much I fear for t*** pop stars the industry is dead we got R&B at an all time sales low Daughtry selling 60k and gaga and Britney doing average numbers I just miss music before 07 tbh…
But I can tell she’s tired and she seems forced art should never be that way !

  20. ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) December 5, 2013

Great decision Brit cause this new album….just no. Every star eventually burns out.. Walk away while people can still remember the good ol’ days in your career..

  21. LOL December 5, 2013

LOL I THOUGHT JANET JACKSON’S DOLLAR STORE CLONE HAD RETIRED ALREADY LOL

  22. Super Cisus December 5, 2013

    THANK GOD

  23. avenger December 5, 2013

Bye. Since I never spent a dime on anything she put out, I can honestly say that her retiring would have zero impact on my heart strings.

  24. MC!!!!! December 5, 2013

I love Britney but she has a family and wants to spend time with with them. tbh what else does she have to do she’s done it all. she will go down in history by being the most successful teenage pop stars
