Brandy To Receive Lady Of Soul Honor At ‘2016 Soul Train Awards’

Published: Wednesday 12th Oct 2016 by Sam

For over two decades, Brandy has shone like a beacon in the realms of R&B and beyond. Hence, it’s fitting that she’s been named as the recipient of the Lady Of Soul honor at the 2016 Soul Train Awards.

Full story below…

Set to air November 27th, the show will broadcast on BET.

Expanding on the decision to salute the singer, the network touted her platinum selling success as an artist, accolades as an actress, and 40 million + record sales. They also note her respective wins at the Grammy Awards, AMAs, and Billboard Music Awards.

Brandy serves as the second ever act to be bestowed the award, following last year’s inaugural honoree Jill Scott.

The 2016 Soul Train Awards, which B-Rocka is also set to perform at, tapes November 6th at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and will be hosted by Erykah Badu.

Obviously ppl do watch it if it’s the 2nd annual presentation. You should focus on your own career because I’m pretty sure brandy the vocal bible which is your favorite singers favorite singer is set for life and Ciara stays busy in the industry. Yet you on this blog living check to check and probably don’t have a career or house of your own. #youobviouslybothered

      • IKNOWTHETRUTH October 12, 2016

        WRONG LOL

    • Danzou October 12, 2016

You’re obviously white. This is why I can’t stand yall. Anything that’s not your culture you think you have to come up with some clever remark. Ciara is a successful beautiful woman and so is brandy and this award show is good for my culture and the people in it. That grammys or the VMAs won’t give a tribute to black artists for the culture because white people are evil and only care about who’s bringing in the politics.

      • IKNOWTHETRUTH October 12, 2016

      • 4everbrandy_Ci October 12, 2016

You better PREACH to these ignorant m************! I’m so tired of the b.s. our black artists go through and instead of people embracing our culture a few ugly people want to take it and make a mockery out of it! Brandy and Ciara are beautiful and they deserve the recognition of their art. Brandy is getting her tribute and I’m HERE for it! #Slayana #VocalBible

      • Jalen October 12, 2016

Soo true! White people always try to hard to give some pseudo-intellect remark. Even if he’s not white, he’s probably under too young to understand that we should celebrate all our black musicians, and not just who ever is mainstream.

  4. pat October 12, 2016

So deserving. She broke a lot of barriers for young black teens of her generation. not to mention her vocal influence

    • 4everbrandy_Ci October 12, 2016

Yes she absolutely did! For her to be one of the young black women artists of her generation says a lot about her! She’s a legend and icon period! Regardless of what others say about her she continues to do what she loves best!

Great job, Brandy! Hopefully this award will help birth some new music for your fans. I know about about the drama you’ve been having with your label, but don’t let that stop you. All can work out if you do your part and let God handle things out of your control.

    Much Success!

    • 4everbrandy_Ci October 12, 2016

Yessssssss you better PREACH it! #Slayana #VocalBible

  9. Danzou October 12, 2016

I’m so happy for her. She so deserves it and has been so humble. She’s a legend. She’s the Whitney Houston of our generation seeing as she has birthed so many careers and so many vocal styles including james Fauntleroy, Chris Brown, Rihanna, dawn Richards, Beyoncé, and so many more.

  10. BeyRihGorgeous October 12, 2016

I forgot about this ugly ass 90’s flop lol.

    • TJ October 12, 2016

Lol [email protected]○t, stfu, you sound like a damn fool. You are forever talking about race. Just because someone doesn’t like Brandy, doesn’t mean they’re not black. I’m black, and i’m not to fond of her.

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

        Are u mad?

    Book Queen!

  19. lolhart October 12, 2016

Brandy should not be receiving this award now. She’s irrelevant as a recording artist at the moment. Maybe in a few years if she manages to make a comeback.

    • Brandy da Queen October 12, 2016

Just stop. Brandy will never be irrelevant because her talent has sustained her. She’s sold millions, has several hit singles, various awards, and has the impact/influence necessary to that of an Icon, especially one who found success in TV, film, and theatre. She had a great run and has nothing to prove.

      • 4everbrandy_Ci October 12, 2016

You better tell it like it is! Brandy is such an “irrelevant”, “flop”, “has-been” and anything else these bitter people say about her. Ye she’s being honored for her contribution and art.

    • Jalen October 12, 2016

so why are u commenting? If she’s irrelevant why is this tribute being announced?

  20. 4everbrandy_Ci October 12, 2016

Lol at these haters trying to discredit The Vocal Bible aka The Queen Brandy Rayana Norwood. She is blessed and at a place where she has touched people’s hearts with her records. I have all of her albums and I grew up seeing her blossom into a beautiful person. Brandy isn’t “relevant” to a few of you bitter people because y’all don’t support black artist that actually made on impact in the culture. Brandy’s catalogue stands alone in her league. She’s being honored and I can’t wait to watch the award show. I see a couple of people gathering these bitter mofos. Brandy is one of the iconic artists of her generation and many artists after her have praised her for her innovation and creativity. Yet these trolls always have something to say about someone else that actually did something for themselves. Slay Brandy!!!!

  21. Tobisscott93 October 12, 2016

    Slay Legendy!

  22. SMH October 12, 2016

I’m here for it. Never was really a Brandy fan (more of a Monica fan), but she truly deserves this award. Everything the new generation sees Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara & all the other young black female artists doing as far as being a triple threat-Brandy was doing it 20 years ago, and on a major level for a teen star. She was the Whitney Houston of the younger generation in the 90’s. Congrats Brandy.

  23. Wayno October 12, 2016

    Was this a coin flip

    Monica or Brandy?

    • Don’t hate my cuz I’m beautiful October 12, 2016

No shade but I never hear anyone citing Monica as an influence…… I like her but nah.

      • Leah Swan October 13, 2016

The media is number one to full people I’m happy she’s happy with her family and all the charity works she has done

    • GAslickmouf October 12, 2016

Coin flip or not Brandy is still killing DAT h**!!! In these streets

  24. Tobisscott93 October 12, 2016

    Monica wishes..

    • Brandy da Queen October 12, 2016

      Cmon guys…lets not fight…celebrate!

    • Leah Swan October 13, 2016

To win isn’t just getting oscars but to be married with a bleautiful family for Monica that’s priceless .michael Jackson the greatest had so many of those yet wasn’t happy . Anyways no Needs for fights congrats to brandy

  25. ASipOfBrandy October 12, 2016

Im so proud of my fave B’Rocka! She is well deserving of this and more! This woman has been in the business for over two decades and she still remains to be true to herself and the gifts she was blessed with and no one can take that away from her.

  26. Naomi Campbell October 12, 2016

Maybe now this will keep her ugly crazy ass off of twitter and instagram for a while..she stays with drama and shade. Always complaining and shading.

    • Leah Swan October 13, 2016

Can we all get along !! Brandy I love u but more love for Monica she looks more chill

      • AChante Chante October 23, 2016

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

      • AChante Chante October 23, 2016

You are right…there are many who can out sing Brandy….but where they at though?! Go do something else besides comment dumb mess on someone who clearly is a great singer and artist. You might not enjoy her music but seriously whats up with all the negative mess you putting out THAT YOU WOULDN’T SAY TO HER FACE!

    • RIHUP October 12, 2016

Will you please stop with the multiple accounts. Thanks.

      • RIHUP October 12, 2016

That was for that Danzou character.

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

WHY would I make more than one account? As if.

      • RIHUP October 12, 2016

        Smh Just stop, it’s embarrassing.

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

No what’s embarrassing is that you’re STILL commenting when you should be worried about getting back behind that trash can sucking c*** for your rent.

      • RIHUP October 12, 2016

Oh honey, you need a hug, you’re trying to hard.

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

    • Be4Real2me October 12, 2016

That’s the bee-hive trying to keep their jobs. The no life has been out lately trying to keep “relevancy”. Black or white they don’t care and it’s just sad.

      • Danzou October 12, 2016

        I know babe I know.

  30. Luis October 13, 2016

Coming from someone who grew up in the 90’s and was obsessed with R&B, this is beyond overdue. Brandy was Princess of the 90’s. There was no other teenager giving the adults a run for their money like Brandy. I remember VH1 even made her a DIVA!! It was Whitney, Tina Turner, Cher, and Brandy!! She was pushing out hit after hit and selling in the millions with her own hit tv show. 4 hit albums. Others albums that went overlooked but still had really good music. You couldn’t go to the store without seeing her on the cover of magazines especially Word Up, Right On, and Black Beat- literally qevery month for years. She was covering the mainstream ones too like Seventeen which was a HUGE publication and Brandy was one of the very very few Black girls to do so at the time. She was a CoverGirl too now that I think of it!! Wow. I’m happy for her. And even when sales haven’t been the best, her music has definitely been widely received. I guess illegally downloaded. You can’t ask most singers today, who their inspiration was without them mentioning Brandy. Her impact is real. Her talent and music is undeniable and timeless. Now let’s just hope she’s smart and sings a new song on the award show, releasing it the Friday prior on iTunes.
