Usher’s ‘Raymond v Raymond’ Rockets To #1

Published: Wednesday 7th Apr 2010 by Sam

Many a naysayer will be eating humble-pie tonight, as Usher‘s new LP ‘Raymond v Raymond’ hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart – after shifting through 329,000 copies first week. The impressive feat marks the singer’s third consecutive #1 LP on the chart; with the previous efforts being 2004’s career-definer ‘Confessions’ and 2008’s ‘Here I Stand’.

So much for Usher being ‘done’, ay? Despite ‘Here I Stand’ not being up-to-par, I never understood the mass declarations of Mr Raymond’s time being up. I mean, every artist has career highs and career lows. Luckily for Usher, things seem to be on the come-up for him; which is awesome (IMO), considering the fact that in an increasingly talent-starved industry, his level of skill is difficult to replace. More power to him…

That is great for Usher. I however wasn’t feeling this project as much as his last, I actually thought Here I Stand had some great marketability, but it is what it is.

hell Here I Stand open up with better numbers and had number one single too but it considered a flop just as this cd will be too when all the promo is done and it dosent have the legs to walk into multiple plat. status which make him no different than other artist open big but peter out . Hell in order to have legs he need a ” to the left to left” type of song to save this cd a nd do about 5 re -release and then it will be considered a hit for example see Beyonce and Rhi Rhi most overated this centry!

All of Usher’s albums have been good, I mean I don’t know who does the reviews but I think Here I Stand had a lot of great songs on it. I liked that album better than this one because Here I Stand had more slow songs, I mean this one is still good. Hope he release Guilty as a single.

This album is going to drop hard and fast. He has no radio support outside of the urban markets, and given the singles that have been released, he probably won’t get any. Usher hasn’t dropped a decent album since ‘8701’, and he’s been overexposed since ‘Confessions’…what I see now is a guy who’s made all of his money when he was young and now just doesn’t know what to do with himself artistically (call it the Bow Wow Syndrome), so he’s kind of churning out these mediocre albums while he cruises on career autopilot until he becomes “relevant” again (he hopes). But singles like ‘OMG’ are not helping the cause…

Hmmm.. that is not a good pic of Ush.
    #justsayin

Anywho…good for Ush! Though I am not entirely satisfied with the album per se, I never thought he was over. I am glad he proved a lot of people wrong! He does have true talent and he deserves his success.

@KBJR: Usher is my dude but I kinda agree with you a bit! This album doesn’t really appeal to mainstream to much in my opinion. I love ‘Daddy’s Home’ and ‘Lil Freak’, but they play them to death and I think they are gonna get played out soon. Plus I only hear them on the Urban stations. “There Goes My Baby’ is a beautiful record, but again I can’t hear it getting to much play on the mainstream stations.
Besides OMG (which I hate) this album doesn’t have to many pop songs. I hear it a bit on the mainstream stations, but I can’t see it staying on the charts to long.
I think it ‘s a decent album but a very ‘urban’ album that won’t appeal to the masses.

It’s not all that urban! Some of it is dance music, pop, classic R&B, 1 reggae dance vibe.

    These songs have hit potential
    OMG
    So Many Girls
    Guilty
    Prolover
    Foolin Around
    She Don’t Know feat Ludacris

And he said on his U stream on March 30th that there will be a re release for this album. There will be probably be a hot collaboration hit on the re release. He has a very good shot on commercial success. As far as international singles OMG is the first one. How can you all be sure this will fail. I am positive Usher knows that he should target the pop Audience because this decade pop and dance music are more popular than ever more than every other genre today.
