Exactly one week before its touted premiere, ‘Applause’ – the lead single from Lady GaGa‘s new album ‘ARTPOP’ – was premiered on iHeartRadio.
What are you waiting for? The moment we’ve all been waiting for is on the other side!
Like most Pop culture events, ‘Applause’ was almost guaranteed to evoke a myriad of emotions; from euphoria, to disappointment, to electrified excitement. Indeed, the DJ White Shadow cut proves quite the rollercoaster, boasting a number of high high’s, as well a few notable lows.
Insanely infectious, the track’s chorus is its main saving grace. Refreshingly simple, its shameless repetition not only “works” for radio, it delivers deliciously anthemic results when juxtaposed against the super-sized production.
Of course, the track does commit a series of petty crimes; the most pronounced being the “Mad Scientist” delivery of its verses. Clearly sung as such to relay edgy and out-there, it sounds more Addams Family than Avant Garde.
Still…
Color us optimists, but we’d go out on a limb to assert that this tastes like ‘The Fame’ on speed. Or better yet a larger, more lethal ‘Fame Monster’. Put simply, it sounds – for the most part – like what a Mother Monster track should sound like an album removed from her most revered projects. (Let’s collectively forget about ‘Born This Way’).
Will ‘Applause’ garner unanimous, rapturous, or even immediate praise? Given the length, breadth and brightness of GaGa’s star, that was always unlikely. However, one thing is certain; ‘Applause’ is a loud, colorful, and bold strut in the right direction. Welcome back, GaGa!

Ok, this is definitely a remixed vintage Madonna track! Gaga was smart enough to go back and conjure up something familiar to Madonna’s early work before 1990 (when Madge’s music was still good).
I like the song. Gaga didn’t over think anything, it’s catchy. It’s actually better than a few offerings from a lot of her competition. The direction switched (just a little bit) from where I thought it was going originally, but it’s still a hot track IMO.

I’m probably not 100% correct but this song probably reminiscent of her past cocaine addiction and her critics and fans making her high off her fame. Pretty weird if it does mean that.
Nope, I’m done with this mess. Gaga was fun in 09, but now just a hot crying for attention mess. Back to R&B music I run, even if it doesn’t sell, it’s still better and good.
Rihanna can hold her album and just release Jump, it will do just fine and better than Gaga and Katy mess. Oh, and I’ll happily wait for Beyonce to finish her tour and come out next year. I will say, the Gaga Vs Katy war will be fun to watch… from the non buying side lines, guess you can call me a C-squad, lol
Rihanna makes conventional pop/r&b music. The demographics on this site mostly listen to urban r&b based music. Rihanna makes catchy SAFE music for radio to eat up. Of course many would put up with her before they put up with Gaga. Anything ppl don’t understand or are not used to they will get turned off of. But that’s okay. Gaga has a strong enough fanbase to get this in top ten at least.
And GaGa doesn’t make catchy SAFE music? All of her singles are catchy and fit perfectly in radio. GaGa’s power come from POP radio stations, while Rihanna has support from URBAN/Rhythmic/Adult Contemporary too. That only proves that GaGa is not versatile and that she only sticks to generic dance-pop sound (the only single that wasn’t that is You and I). She has never released a ballad as single. Rihanna did it many times.
Also, besides her debut album, nothing about her music has been conventional. The fact that she actually writes her own melodies on the spot proves she’s worthy of something. Like I said Rihanna is just a puppet and if I had to choose between who makes more conventional music it would definitely be Rihanna. And only type of music Gaga hasn’t made is urban and r&b music probably because it doesn’t suit her style. Other than that lady gaga is versatile. She’s done jazz with tony Bennett rock pop electronica. She’s not the type to take whatever song someone hands to her.

WOW, those are some powerful lyrics. Now if you would’ve said Katy, now she can write. Gaga is more then this, she’s the ONLY one in pop write now that can make a classic album, she can do jazz, blues, classical. But she play the catchy, Halloween and now running around n*** just to gain attention and it’s sad.
Tell me who else other than Rihanna can drop an album with the first two singles slow songs, the other are urban singles, one isn’t really a single, the fans made it a hit (Loveee song). So don’t do it, cause Rihanna can easily drop LOUD type albums over and over, but she take chances the most and she don’t have to have a deal that plays her singles every hour, I’m sure she does that automatically.

The song grew on me the longer I listed to it.
Lady Gaga is giving me a little Annie Lennox and a huge dose of early 80s synth-pop with a 2013 sensibility — slightly familiar, but just different enough to not be derivative of any other song or artist in particular. I think she’s on to something with this.

Im not a fan of gaga, NEVER see the hype and this song just confirms her mediocrity! Once you get pass her weird vocals and hear what she’s saying in the verse you learn nothng from the song. It doesn’t have the substance of Katy Perry’s ROAR, no meaning, just her babbling on about how much she likes attention…it’s very catchy though. been in my head for 2 dys, still dont make it a good song
