It’s no secret that Rihanna’s new album has been marred by a multitude of delays. However, one of the rare gems to emerge from the muddled project has been the snippet of new song ‘American Oxygen.’
Previewed in the form of a commercial for the NCAA, the model unveiled the song in full form live tonight at the March Madness Music Festival.
Clearly a risk given how consistently inconsistent she is, did it pay off? Find out below…
While the song continues to show promise, it’s abundantly obvious that we’ll have to wait to hear the studio version. Why? Because that performance was a wet, soggy, mess.

This was bad, and the blame goes to the sound engineers. The band sounded out of sync, and the acoustics overall sounded horrible.
At one point she turns to the band and was yelling at them midway the song. They were off and her headset wasnt working. The song sounded really promising when the snippets were released a few weeks ago. However, I feel like Rihanna should NEVER premiere a song with a live performance! Taking into consideration the usual jitters most artists feel when performing a song live for the first time, Rihanna has never been a standout performer. So coupling these factors plus the technical difficulties she faced made for a truly tragic showing. Everyone has off days but with Rihanna, her good performances are so few and far inbetween which isn’t a good look when she’s going on 10 years in the music business. She doesn’t have dance like Janet Jackson to be a great performer but it’ll nice if she took greater care of her voice since she’s not exactly that kinetic as a performer. I like her but the Navy really has no business coming for certain artists performance ability when she delivers such mediocracy on stage.
