Report: RCA Has NOT Dropped Christina Aguilera, Despite Rumors

Published: Friday 6th Jul 2018 by Rashad

Christina Aguilera‘s latest album, the long-awaited ‘Liberation,’ may have been met with critical acclaim galore, but – to date – that fanfare has not been mirrored commercially.  Debuting at a respectable top 10 position on the Billboard 200, this week saw the ‘Accelerate’-led project accelerate down the charts at the pace of a whopping 92-spot drop.

And, while the songstress is undoubtedly hoping the set (her first studio album to hit the charts without a top 40 single preceding it) picks up steam after she hits the road in its support (click here for dates), she’s here to remind fans that she is past the point of ‘chasing charts.’  Taking to the LA Times to dish on how her artistry has taken precedence over commercial acclaim, her statements came just days before rumors began swirling her label home, RCA, had dropped the Grammy winner after a string of failed projects.

Now, reps from Aguilera’s camp are looking to silence that claim.   Details inside:

Xtina on commercial expectations for ‘Liberation’:

“It is an amazing thing whenever things are commercially received and successful. I’ve had those successes with ‘Genie in a Bottle’ and ‘What a Girl Wants,’ and I was still miserable because I wasn’t connected to the music and wasn’t being able to change it,” she explained. “I’ve done my share of that and I see a lot of artists get into that trap of chasing the charts. After I’m dead and gone, I really want the music paid attention to and not because of where I charted or how commercially successful it was but because the quality has stood the test of time.”

She went on to state:

“Because I am a real vocalist, I have always heard, ‘Why don’t you just stand and do a bunch of ballads?’ That’s just one element of what I do, but it’s not everything. I would be so bored if I sat on the stage and just sang ballad after ballad.”

Aguilera on why ‘The Voice’ was a bad environment:

Look, everybody has their own experience, and I don’t want to devalue anyone’s own experience with any of those shows. As an artist, I believe in artists being able to express themselves how they feel they should. Just know there’s a lot of other people involved in those shows. Certain factors and things are dictated according to what ratings will be. It’s definitely a business. I also saw blatant things that I didn’t think were okay and that I’m sure no one would want to put up with in a work environment. It was important for me to step away. [source]

The story above made its way onto the net just days before rumors began circulating about her being dropped from her longtime label home RCA.  A spokesperson confirmed to our friends at GossipCop the alleged firing ‘is not true.’  Click here to read that full story.

You know, I can’t stand when artists diss their own music lol…Genie In A Bottle sounds just as fresh as the day it dropped and What A Girl Wants still GOES ? GIRL, nobody was really feeling Hibernation tho! Just STAWP ? ?

    • MessyBoots July 6, 2018

Agree 100 percent. Which is why her less talented peer was able to have a longer hit charting career because she EMBRACED all of her old music. Plus, she knows how to stay in her lane. Xtina on the other hand is 20 years deep into her career still trying to figure it out.

I will say that Liberation is a good body of work that she can be proud of despite the lacks of sales/hits.

STRUGGLE-TINAS problem is in being ONE DIMENSIONAL… Only ONE style of musi straintinas NATURALLY OVER BEARING And tasteless voice. cant sing dance/fun songs of ANY style cause it will sound corney and tgats what xtina has been doing since Dirty and Gennie… CORNFEST… mariah has the same problem but far greater voice and music. Bey also has better voice and music than Xtina but unlike the two can CROSS OVER into literally any genre and albums that dont comorise of filler also help with longevity which xtina diesnt have longevity or a strong catalog overall (besides Reflection Beautiful and Hurt which noone remembers these 1 demensional ballads)

(My other post wasn’t finished and wasn’t supposed to be posted by accident)

STRUGGLE-TINAS problem is in being ONE DIMENSIONAL… Only ONE stryle works for straintinas NATURALLY OVER BEARING And tasteless voice. cant sing dance/fun songs of ANY style cause it will sound corney and thats what xtina has been doing since Dirty and Gennie… CORNFEST… mariah has the same problem but far greater voice and music. Britney on other hand can do both vibes of music tempo wise. Bey also has better voice and music than Xtina but unlike the others can CROSS OVER into literally any genre and make albums that dont comprise of filler also help with longevity which xtina doesnt have longevity or a strong catalog overall (besides Reflection Beautiful and Hurt which noone remembers these 1 demensional ballads). Xtinas problem isnt long breaks its lacking versatility on top of a radio friendly voice.

worry less about my so called “accounts” and more about STRAINTINAS pending Drop from Label and staying within Billboard 200 instead of being outdone by dead rappers ?

      • Truth Teller July 7, 2018

Wait wasn’t Beyoncé the self proclaimed Queen and her cheating rapper husband outdone by a death rapper and by teenage boy bands as well?
        What’s your point fat slob?

  3. DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 6, 2018

There is no colorful dynamics to xtinas voice so trying to experiment or chase trends will never work ? DEPRESSION will soon leave the entire 200 just like floop out of woods. 460 could never

How was the voice a bad environment but you were there for almost a decade?

    • Teflon Boy July 7, 2018

Because it paid extremely well. It’s easy to get comfortable when the bag is secured, even if the vibe is trash. Just look at Melania??

  5. Caleb July 7, 2018

I think it’s respectable when an artist isn’t obsessed with chart success and is in a sense “liberated” to make the music they want because they don’t have to worry about how it will be received because they know it’s not going to be all that popular with the mainstream anyway.

  6. Teflon Boy July 7, 2018

Xtina has too much potential for a label to ever flat out drop her. Now, her album roll out budget might decrease but RCA would never take the risk of letting her go as she is an act who still has a lot to offer creatively and commercially with the right team. Liberation while I enjoyed it and still play certain tracks was not the album it was billed as. Fighters wanted RnB/Urban Christina but it came off as though she wasn’t fully committed to the cause. IMO X6 was a missed opportunity but one that at least showed she still has some relevancy.

  7. Music lover July 7, 2018

Christina needs to go back to to her Back to basic album sound embrace her old song genie in a bottle sound revamp that sound for today and push forward I won’t that Christina back!!

  8. BYISI July 8, 2018

I keep seeing all this advice to an artist close to 40, who’s been out for 20 years that still doesn’t have a signature sound and took 5 years to sit on a reality show that’s never created a star. RCA would be well within their rights to drop Christina! Three flop albums back to back, four if you count back to basics under performing for the era it was released in. Her last top ten solo hit was in 2008!
People are unrealistic about artist and their expiration dates.
Christina could recreate Stripped and B2B it still would flop in 2018,with proper promotion. She had plenty of promotion this album, no excuse she just hasn’t been a viable selling artist since back to basics(2006) The only people who don’t seem to realize that is RCA and the fans she has left.
