I’m very Happy for Sam Smith and Jessie J, talent deserves to be awarded, however this is a true sign of the times on how this industry is pushing White artist doing black music and not bothering with Black artist at all that want to do music that is actually there origin! You can’t blame the MOBO’s for awarding what is popular , but its time now that we don’t ignore this and really start making moves to support each other as black artist and build our own industry like the Americans have been doing for years otherwise R&B will no longer be recognised as Black Music. I Love Thatgrapejuice, its my favourite sight and I see how Sam really does try to promote new black music which is great but i do wish the attacks on some of our most influential black artist of this era would stop, the more you disrespect the Rihanna’s the Mariahs etc, if we kill the back artist that are actually still trying to fly the flag, the industry has an excuse to say don’t sign them cos they won’t sell, thats basically how it works

I hear you.. But in this case, it’s a popularity contest and SAM was the clear winner regardless of colour

I agree, as i said i have no problem with Sam or Jessie winning, i’m just saying that more Black artist need to be signed and promoted so, there are are options and they at least get the opportunity to be nominated or win, it is a the Mobo’s at the end of the day.. If the industry aren’t signing black artist doing music they originated then they don’t even get a chance

Congrats Mr Smith! Truly well deserving. I love Sam, he’s so special. But I can’t help but feel that there was some shade in the title of the article. SO WHAT If a white guy wins the most at the MOBOS? His musical tastes and influences stem from black people and that in itself makes him or anybody applicable to win a mobo! DO NOT send for Sam Smith TGJ!!! I HAVE SPOKEN

Could you imagine black people dominating country music or even POP wards at the grammy’s? BLACKS IN THE UK ARE DUMB AS HELL. I saw the red carpet., there was barely any blacks at the black AWARRDS. THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE BLACK WOMAN NOMINATED IN BEST FEMALE.

DONT U DARE SAY IT IS NOT A BLACK AWARDS. THEY HAVE ASIAN AWARDS, THE LATIN BILLBOARD AND OTHER ETHNIC AWARDS…….BLACKS IN THE UK, U NEED TO STOP SELLING OUT TO WHITES

I CANNOT believe that people are making this about colour, the people who deserved to win won, regardless if they are white, brown, black or purple. You guys make me sick, always throwing colour in everything… SHUT UP, it’s people like you that cause issues with society. Do you know what MOBO stands for? I guess not let me tell you Music Of Black Origins (MOBO) and every one who was nominated and won has been influenced by music that was predominantly associated with black people e.g Jazz, Soul, Rap, RnB, Hip Hop…. And since Sam Smith and Jessie J both are influenced by these genres and they make music that reflect that. And as for black people selling out to white it appears to me that the UK is so much more forward than the U.S. as we don’t see colour we see talent…..TALENT now sit sow. And b**** about something worth bitching about.

No shade ill remain anonymous here
    1. no one should blame mono for giving awards to white people.
the majority of anrs in the UK are white and guess who they sign …..white people in particular white men. in fact on B** radio 1
there number one artist to support is a white man or a male group..ie disclosure etc
then next a white woman, then a black guy/rapper not singer
then lastly if ever and she must be exceptional- a black woman (light skin), then a multi-instrumentalist exceptional (darker skinned black woman)
Radio 1 runs the music industry in the UK, so if you cannot get radio support from that station you will not sell. ELLA EYRE hasn’t broken through coz Radio1 don’t support her enough like they do men…coz she’s a woman of colour. a black girl will break through coz its only a matter of time. and with sales so low, someone will be willing to take a gamble which i hope will pay off. Just like they did with Emeli Sande and she sold over 2 million copies (more than RITA WHORA btw)

Racism is real but i don’t blame the public as we all saw how successful, JLS AND LEONA and alexandra burke were initially at least. I blame the white run industry itself. Black artists in the uk need to adopt an indie approach make yourself valuable then you cannot be ignored..for instance how many black female artists can write and produce thier own music to a high standard? Learn from the Chinese if you cannot beat them…outwork them …then you will beat them inevitable…
