While Kendrick Lamar‘s talent is unquestionable, the Compton bred rapper left many scratching their heads when the pre-order link for his sophomore album hit the net.

Sporting a 17-song tracklist, the LP – the follow-up to 2013’s ‘good kid, M.A.A.D City’ – was billed as ‘Untitled.’ A fact which had many wondering if the rap titan has christened the project as such.

Fast forward a week and the mystery has been solved.

Taking to Instagram today, the MC shared the project’s official cover and revealed its confirmed name.

Peep the artwork above and the title below…

The snap was captioned with the following…

“Don’t all dogs go to heaven? Don’t Gangsta’s boogie? Do owl shit stank? Lions, Tigers & Bears. But TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. Its the American dream n*gga….” – lil Homie.

Shortly after, Rolling Stone confirmed that the set – due March 23rd is indeed named ‘To Pimp A Butterfly.’

I now see that its a dead white judge with a gavel in his hand, So Im understanding the metaphor a bit more…. The corrupt government and Justice system and how it trinkles down from the head to the citizens…….
This is real, the more that I look at the cover

Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s not just a white guy…it’s a gavel in his hand symbolizing the system or judge who are letting the REAL criminals get off Scott free. Mike brown anyone?

Striking cover. Hope the music lives up to GKMC… I thought “i” was kind of mediocre

At first, I was very confused, but like FutureCiara, when I started to look closely and analyze the message, I understand it. It represents more than just a photographer and a photo full of air brushing. It has a message. I love it.
