Despite steep competition, a slew of historic nominations, and a snafu that saw acting legend Warren Beatty announce the wrong name for ‘Best Picture,’ the 89th annual Academy Awards are making history for another reason: poor ratings.
In fact, the viewership for Sunday’s showing was so low, it comes as the lowest of the decade. Details inside:
Viewership: 32.9 Million
Sunday night’s show drew 32.9 million viewers with a 9.1 rating among adults 18-49.
…that equals a nine-year viewership low for AMPAS’ annual ceremony. In fact, the 2017 Oscars were the third-least-watched of the 21st century.
Viewership over the last 9 years:
2017 Viewership: 32.9 Million
2016 34.4 million
2015 37.3 million
2014 43.7 million
2013 40.3 million
2012 39.3 million
2011 37.9 million
2010 41.3 million
2009 36.3 million
2008 32.0 million
Still a ratings winner! No ratings will be the same every year. It fluctuates. Just like weight!
I loved the show it was great. Some times change means you will have to take a hit but F the racist people who didn’t watch.
That’s because (As my son Rocky says) it’s BOR-WING dahhhling!
Nobody was trying to watch that nonsense. I skipped it too. Bad movies and bad actors over-nominated.
Tbh I don’t watch it either they need to revamp it that’s why ppl be there sleeping ?. Add music performers idk maybe a Wendy willams as a host lol
Do something.
Who was gonna tune in to see the flop that was Moonlight win Best Picture, and to watch a bunch of phony and out of touch celebrities use their acceptance speech to badmouth Trump? People tuned out in droves. I knew when they went out of their way to pander in a blatant attempt to make up for last years #OSCARSSOWHITE nonsense that the ratings were gonna tank.
No surprise.
audiences don’t support blatantly racist programming…. maybe this year’s wins will win back some of that lost audience but you can’t blame them for switching onto better tv programming options as a result….
I can see why. Look at who and what won. Maybe next year will have better nominations.
