Oh No! Katy Perry Banned From China

Published: Monday 20th Nov 2017 by David

There’s bad news for Chinese Katy Perry fans.

What it is?

She’s been blacklisted by the Chinese government!

Perry had been enlisted to rock the Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show alongside the brand’s latest batch of models in China tonight.

Unfortunately, after Yolanda Hadid‘s daughter Gigi was reportedly banned from the nation after its officials came across the video below, Katy has learned that she too has been rejected.

Why?

‘Page Six’ reports…

Sources exclusively told Page Six on Thursday that the “Swish Swish” singer had tried applying for a visa to enter the communist nation, but was denied by Chinese officials.

While she initially was informed that she’d be able to gain access, the decision apparently was reversed after the government caught wind of a controversial incident from 2015, in which Perry wore a bright, glittery dress with sunflowers on it during a performance in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.

Her outfit wound up causing widespread outrage because the sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters.

The source added…

She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa,” a source explained. “For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social-media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country. Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter.

The ban, which many fans have deemed unfair, will come as bad news for the jovial Katy who had hoped the performance would boost sales of her feel-good set ‘Witness.

She’s not popular in China anyway. Only a few Western artists like Adele and Taylor Swift are and their popularity pales in comparison to home grown Chinese artists.

Mariah is even more popular. Still the 1st and only artist to perform 5 sold out stadiums in mainland China in 2015.

I think this is probably the same visa-granting criteria that Trump envisions having for the United States.
