So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.
Next, we’ll fall in love all over again with criminally underrated R&B songstress Amerie and her inaugural hit single, ‘Why Don’t We Fall in Love.’ Meet us inside:
With 2002 having already introduced R&B to new faces Ashanti and Tweet by its midpoint, then-newcomer Amerie Rogers (better known mononymously) would help complete the trifecta with her summer-lifted debut single.
After earning buzz in the U.K., Rogers made an even bigger splash across the pond as American R&B lovers were falling in love with her tune, ‘Why Don’t We Fall In Love.’ A staple on rhythmic radio, the horn-laden ‘Love’ – which sampled ‘3 Days of the Condor’s soundtrack theme ‘I’ve Got You Where I Want You’ – was lauded for its boisterous arrangement of crashing drums and A’s uniquely layered harmonies.
By the time its Benny Boom-directed video really began running the video circuit, praise from critics was being echoed by music buyers as ‘Love’ landed at #23 [where it peaked] just weeks after its Stateside unveiling. Eventually leading its parent album, ‘All I Have,’ to a #9 debut on the Billboard 200, the Rich Harrison-produced tune may not have seen its success reflected by an RIAA certification but it remains a celebrated gem from the era of R&B and a fan favorite among the singer’s prized discography.

Been rocking with Amerie for 17 years now. Say what you want, but she definitely made her mark and had a great run in the 2000s with those irresistable beats and harmonies.
You have to work and use the computer and internet, and if you can do that and dedicate some time each day then you can do this with no problem.

Yes! Love Amerie.
If only Amerie had a better team, she could have been HUGE! Ugh. Unfortunately she and Kelly Rowland are prime examples of why you don’t marry your manager.
Everything since 2007 has been a mess for Amerie’s career (the last album promo was terrible and sold 12k first week; she then went independent with “Phoenix Rising” which was a fail, attempted to go the dance-pop route and that failed, then released that weird EP s**t last year). Basically, Amerie has it all, except a good team to help guide her.
I’m very sad because I see her potential and LOVED her first few albums.

Are you shitting me? Amerie had one of the best labels and teams. Everybody isnt meant to be a continual star. She came , she peaked, she crashed, she’s independent. It’s such a common pattern at this point for artist. Shes always had more lip service on blogs and social media than she ever had in an actual fanbase. Her first two eras showed us weak live vocal performances, half cooked albums, and an artist not really sure how to market themselves. It also highlighted an artist not sure have to make solid bodies of work, both of those albums aged like milk. Her new stuff is almost unlistenable. I don’t know what you’re hearing or seeing but this isnt is. Amerie was the weakest of the R&B girls who debuted in the early 2000’s for sure! It’s the reason she fizzled out first.

1 thing was a mega smash, she should have kept the momentum but she didn’t.
At least she’s Grammy nominated.
To say that her 1st two albums aged like milk is so wrong. All I Have and Touch are RnB masterpieces! Rich Harrison did his thing with Amerie. The chemistry they had was SPECIAL. And it will forever be known and praised.
Damn even the 2002 charts was so much more better than today’s hot a** mess of a chart. Man I miss those days when listening to music was such a joy.

Amerie has some gems and I loved her albums. Unfortunately I wasnt able to listen to them as a whole, because after a couple of Songs her voice gets seriously annoying. At least to me. But every song was a gem.
Amerie had potential to be a diva but she refused to sell her soul to the evil. I miss her go-go and loud horn sounds
