Rosie O’Donnell may have once ruled the airwaves as ‘Queen of Nice’ while she hosted her hit 90’s talk show, ‘The Rosie O’Donnell Show,’ but fans of stars who have been on the receiving end of her commentary or criticism wouldn’t quite dub her as such.
In 2017, O’Donnell made headlines when she ticked off Whitney Houston fans for weighing in on the late Pop diva’s sexuality – asserting she knew for a fact the ‘I Will Always Love You’ singer was romantically involved with longtime friend, Robyn Crawford. The assertion came two years before Crawford published her memoir, ‘A Song for You,’ confirming the rumored relationship.
This week, Rosie revisited her thoughts on Houston’s demons – including the GRAMMY winner’s alleged discomfort with public knowledge of her sexuality, drug addiction, and more.
Taking to “Hot Takes & Deep Dives” podcast Monday (March 22), O’Donnell looked back on an incident where Houston – hot on the promo trail for her ‘Cinderella’ production with Brandy at the time – reportedly no-showed a visit to the comedienne’s talk show.
“I said to her crew who was already there, ‘this is all on all of you because when she dies, everyone’s going to ask why didn’t you do something,'” Rosie reflected.
According to the EMMY winner, it was that statement that led Robyn and Houston’s crew to begin looking for ways to help the ailing Pop icon – ultimately to no avail.
When quizzed more about Robyn, Rosie revealed she always knew Houston was romantically involved with her.
“Whitney was troubled by, I think, the gay part of her life and didn’t want it exposed. It’s hard in Black culture to accept gayness. It’s culturally more difficult,” Rosie said before continuing “I think that there was a lot of conflict about that.”

I would beg to differ @Eric. Because Rosie is a part of the celebrity world and has access that most of us can only speculate about ourselves, I would say that she probably has good insight into what was really going on in that period. So much of what fans read is manipulated and concocted to serve the money-making machine, not the human being behind it. We should all know that by now…
What I mean is she can’t speak to Whitney’s thought process, her motivations, life choices, struggles, etc. unless she was a part of Whitney’s personal circle which she admittedly wasn’t. This entire interview is speculative and for what purpose?
