The 27-year-old just learned his latest album ‘Justice’ debuted atop the Billboard 200 the same week its latest single, ‘Peaches,’ took a bite out of the Hot 100’s top spot (as we reported here).
Now, Bieber – who is already the most certified male vocalist in digital music history (according to the Recording Industry Association of America) – is adding another plaque to his colossal collection.
On March 29, the RIAA updated its logs to reveal ‘Justice’ (released just March 19) has crossed its threshold for Gold status – meaning it’s sold the equivalent of 500,000 units in the United States. Its overall sales count was also padded by a recently released deluxe edition.
Confused fans (affectionately called #Beliebers) who may wonder how his album – which only tallied at 154,000 units sold first week – could have already met the RIAA metric should pay special attention to the word “equivalent.” Keeping in mind that 10 track sales or 1500 track streams equal 1 unit sale (by RIAA certification guidelines), a portion of the LP’s singles’ sales were applied to the overall RIAA tally for ‘Justice.’
Thusly, a Gold plaque was awarded.
