But this performance was heavily beyonce influenced. I love and am rooting for her tho. She seems still immature a bit.
I forgot to add that it did seem like Normani”s audio was shoddy. Lil nas x gave a pretty food performance, I feel like he needs to do LESS dancing and save that for the dancers. Soja cat is always changing it up which is refreshing.

I’m just not here for any of it. I rarely complain because I don’t always feel the need to compare old school versus new school but I was severely let down by each and every performance. I don’t see any star power from any of these artist at all. I don’t even think that my standards are too high I just don’t see it anymore.
Obviously I would say Chloe and Normani we’re definitely anticipated performances. They weren’t bad at all but neither performance was great. But definitely better than every other performance so that’s not really saying much. They’re young and they living their dreams so they should be proud but I am done supporting mainstream music. I’ll stay in my corner with my indie people because there’s just no star power at all.

It’s great to see the young black females of R&b today, rock the VMA stage. I haven’t watched this show in a long time but I feel like the last time r&b was embraced on this stage was Beyoncé’s love on top performance and even that is kind of pop. This is a moment for black females who make r&b music, especially Normani’s song. The only comparison I’m going to make is that while these girls did great, they still can’t hold a candle to their predecessors, Beyoncé, Ciara, Or Amerie for that matter. All of whom could execute strenuous choreography and deliver live vocals at the same time. I’ve seen Tinashe do this.

As someone who wanted the “new” girls to give me something, I must say none did. Not “wowed” by any of them. That being said, Doja won for creativity and staging. Overall, Busta (as MUCH as I HATE to admit it) was the best performance. I agree with the posters that said the new girls were too much copy cat and not enough innovation. Chloe’s pacing and timing was ALL WRONG and she was too close to Beyonce for comfort; Normani pushed hers into the redzone by bring out Janet’s prop (not necessary AT ALL). Both Chloe and Normani need new creative teams to truly evolve. I will keep watching the new girls, but tonight didn’t “anoint” anyone. Doja keeps the live performance lead. Camilla, Ozuna (cute bears, tho), and Lil NasX were the weakest elements of their performances, which is NEVER a good sign. Time will tell…
Busta was the best performance overall, but Doja still wins in the “new girls” category. She was the only one who displayed any creativity/”give me something to SEE”. Camilla, Ozuna, and Lil NasX were the weakest elements of their own performances.

I have to give a clap for Doja, always giving something new visually to keep you interested and engaged. Although I’m not a fan of Camila and her song from the soundtrack to Beetlejuice 2, the performance was cute (although not the singing).
Now, after the release of Aaliyah’s music on streaming services, and people question her start quality, it’s clear that 20+ years later the girls could never.
Janet the blue print, referenced by Aaliyah & Britney, after all the fuss, Normaini gave this lacklustre show that started nowhere and ended up nowhere. She would’ve been better debuting a new track.
Chloe was the same. She plagiarised Beyoncé instead of referencing and I wasn’t sold.
I also have to say, I’m all for women’s expression, but a lot of the outfits were one note. It was the same thing in different materials and colours.
