Just days after announcing she owns her master recordings, singer-songwriter Ashanti’s signature song ‘Foolish’ serves notice of how wise it was to invest in herself.
Nearly 20 years after the tune’s debut and storm of the Billboard Hot 100 (topping the tally for a whopping 10 weeks), it’s still getting love on digital and streaming outlets – a continued success that has spelled for even greater attention at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

On Ashanti’s birthday (October 13), the RIAA announced ‘Foolish’ had crossed its threshold for double Platinum status – meaning it’s sold the equivalence of 2 million copies in the United States to date.
As of time reported, it is the only of her greatest hits to reach such certification plateau. It joins her 2004 Gold-certified hit, ‘Only U,’ as the only two singles of her career to be certified by the organization.

This post woke my eyes up about Ashanti because when she came out there was so much hype and fanfare. It’s just so crazy to me that not one song off of her other albums or singles were certified or critically claimed like the ones on her first.
Ashanti is still a legend in most peoples eyes but when you think about it after doing research, she really became irrelevant right after the second album sadly. I was so lost in the hype that I didn’t even realize it.
I always felt the g-unit beef and the punk’d episode she did where she was caught acting like a diva were the main contributors to the damage her career soon had.
She’s a legend in whose eyes? She’s sings the same few songs from her debut album along with Always On Time at small venues while headlining with Ja Rule.
The only time I hear this song is when it’s played by teenage white girls who weren’t even born at the time of it’s release. It seems to be really popular with that demographic.

No, it didn’t. Her first album is only 3x platinum certified. Chapter II and Concrete Rose are certified Platinum. Only You is certified Gold. Source: RIAA certification website.
