Published: Saturday 11th Dec 2021 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Mitski, Bon Iver, Max, and Wrabel.

Join us inside…

Mitski – Heat Lightning

Mitski continues to share new tunes from her upcoming ‘Laurel Hell’ album. Taking a detour from indie-pop, this time around, she shares the hypnotic R&B influenced ‘Heat Lightning.’ An ode to insomnia, ‘Heat Lightning’ is built around a soft backbeat, gentle strings, and haunting procession. Whereas lightning is a quick flash then gone, ‘Heat Lightning’ begs to differ as it will stand the test of time as one of the defining songs in her career.

Bon Iver – Second Nature

Serving as the latest taste of music from the ‘Don’t Look Up’ soundtrack, indie-rock band Bon Iver has shared their latest song, ‘Second Nature.’ A contemplative tune about the characteristics of human nature and life, the song is constructed from twinkling keys, layers background vocals, and country-infused strings. All-in-all the group has delivered one of the year’s must-hear tunes.

Max – Butterflies

Crooner Max will surely get your heart fluttering on his latest song, ‘Butterflies.’ A duet with Fletcher, the pair delivers one of the most swoon-worthy songs of the year over gentle guitar plucks and warm synths. Destined to become a wedding staple, ‘Butterflies’ is  the perfect song for that someone special.

Wrabel – London

Singer-songwriter Wrabel is back and better than ever with his latest song, ‘London.’ A duet with country darling Cam, ‘London’ is an acoustic ballad that finds the pair reminiscing over a past relationship, where they are worlds away, but the pain is still as fresh as ever. Heartbreaking and beautiful, they have captured lightning in a bottle and turned it into pure magic.
