Don’t get me wrong, I like Adele and I’m happy for her but lets be honest, the dearth of elevated talent in the music industry has brought this about! Her CD is wonderful (07′ BACK TO BLACK IS MUCH BETTER) and I see her continuing to rule the charts but I do believe there is more to this story! I remember when you had powerhouses within the industry: Whitney, Mariah, Anita Baker, Sade, Madonna and many more who served as healthy competition for one another. Now we are only treated to a handful of truly talented artists and a gaggle of marginally to nontalented individuals that are heavily supported by the media! Well congrats to all the talent on top!
I think some Bey stans have to be more embracing of other talented artists and show respect for Beyoncé by respecting the people she holds in high regards like Adele and Gaga. I hate the fact the some of Bey stans come off as “crusty” or bitter considering we know that Bey has something these other girls still have to prove…longevity. This is only Adel’s second as well as Gaga’s. Beyoncé isn’t at her peak anymore so it’s understandable that she’d lag behind the “it” girls a bit. The fact that she’s in the top 3 even after 15 years should humble us fans.

No, in a lot of ways, it does matter when you release. 4 probably would be selling better had it been released in the 4th quarter instead of four weeks ago, but blaming the timing of the release is still no excuse, cause no one put a gun to Bey’s team’s heads and told them to release now, instead of near Christmas time, when sales are at their peak. Rihanna’s team played it smart, racking up those Christmas sales, and letting radio and hit singles do most of the rest of the promo for her.

mid 1900s rock ruled the radio and was mainstream successful, late 1900s r&b ruled radio and was mainstream successful, and now early 2000s pop (specifically dance) rules the radio and is mainstream successful. there are of course exceptions like pop artist who were dominate in the late 1900s like michael jackson and madonna. but with how the trend is going other genres won’t be as successful as pop is right now, so it is very understandable why beyonce’s 4 is not doing as great as her previous albums, especially since mainstream belongs to dance music. so far every genre has had its time and maybe in a few more years r&b will be as successful as it once was.
It took Beyonce a little over a month to reach her 1 million mark? Ouch! For someone of her status, fame and popularity, you can not tell me that this is good. She’s supposed to be the “King” or “Queen” as people call her, and she’s just now getting to selling a little over 1 million copies. As the weeks go on, it seems like she’s selling less and less albums. The numbers are supposed to go up every week, not down. This is Beyonce’s lowest and slowest moving album to date.

Her single (RTW) not doing well is all about logistics. Release it, perform it, music video, then number one for a while… But since it leaked 3 weeks early and she did nothing on it in between that time… well I won’t’ write excuses, but it’s a plausible reason. My thing with the Bey Stans: When Rated R Flopped (yes, I’m a Stan and not afraid to admit it) the original problem/Stans were the C.B fans.. All of the time during Rated R, Pre-LOUD, and LOUD Era they constantly repeated the line “Wait til the Queen Bey comes back..this b**** is over…” and they preached that for a longggg time. So when Beys new Era started it was like…well..where is it? And even after ALL that happening they STILL talked s***. Like the BMA’s, it turned into “RihGoats irrelevent, it’s all about Bey”. So now it’s really turned into a thing of revenge on both sides cuz the Bey fans feel Rihanna Stans shaded Bey all through the “4” era so far cuz of RTW. I must say, I enjoy debating with you. You bring up great points without trolling. That’s much appreciated on my end. This is proof that we can discuss artists without throwing shade.
You ask why 4 is doing bad… Well I wish I knew why. I can only speculate that the general public’s affinity to liking great music has been diluted by all the electro/dance pop…but even that’s not fair considering Adele’s success. I really don’t know.
What I do know is, after 9 albums and 15 years in the music industry the numbers this album has managed to pull is commendable. The fact that it’s not the typical pop album is also something to be applauded. Like I said before, she’s past her peak, so being in a leading position in a run along with these 23, 24, 25 year olds is quite a feat. She’s not simply the “baddest b****” in the game cuz she’s sold a lot one era, it’s her consistency and longevity that keeps her at the top.
It’s not accurate to compare their careers now, but when these other women have accomplished what Bey has in such a short time frame than we can determine who the flops were and weren’t. She’s been fortunate to accomplish things that the younger generation of queens dream of accomplishing.

Hmmm, the thing is…I don’t think 4 is great music. I think it’s somewhat good but considering Beyonce’s age and the fact she has been in this game so long it comes off as immature to me. RTW has such an awkward beat, Best Thing I Never Had would have been good if it came before Me, Myself and I, Irreplaceable, or any of her other sine female anthems. ‘Showed your ass’ seems like such a crude downgrade for Beyonce. End of tine is nice but lacking personality, it’s such a generic song I could see Britney Spears singing it. In a lot of was this album has confused me about Beyonce’s growth and place in music because based on the sound alone this is the album of a 24 yr old woman.
In a weird way I think the real question is what happened to the Beyonce fanbase becauseGsga’s current album is almost pure crap but she has a strong enough Stan base her own musical decline was celebrated. For B’s 15 years it seems like her fanbase isnt strong at all.
Oprah, Americ Idol, Glastonbury, Billboard nit to count the dozen of other talk shows and mag covers and she’s barely cracked 1 mill ww? That’s awful!
I think the music isn’t exciting and so very few people are responding to it, it doesn’t have to be electro pop for that (look at Adele) but the lyrics, generic sound, and lack of something new and exciting (I also think her voice isn’t as interesting as it used to be as we do have a lot of strong voices these days) people aren’t jumping like they used to.

Most of her fans don’t know when to stop and they pass beyond what is acceptable and go into personal territory in defense of a woman who doesn’t know you existed and if you actually got too close to her Julius would probably knock you out anyway and she would stop right on over you so whatever.
Adele’s fans are supporting her to the fullest, this is how its done! No gimmicks, no need to call herself a Queen/King, nothing just pure talent… Classic.
I for one have expressed my feelings towards Run The World…hell when it just came out I called it a F-L-O-P…I still think its a FLOP lead single, however I do appreciate it when its played Loudly when I’m playing 4 straight through! But I dislike the fact that people say her single(s) flopped…Only 1 flopped…Best Thing Climbs the charts every single week…
What I have noticed though is that in the process of calling out the “BEY STANS” for talking s***, some of you end up doing the exact same thing that we are wrong for.
Like it or not 4 is a very SOLID album….
Hell Bruno Mars started off with “low sales” and once those singles started to come out , the album sold like HOT CAKES….

I think its too early to say that….They are requesting her songs on the radio because her audience goes up by 0.8-1.2mil every day! Bruno Mars album was out for a while and his singles weren’t hot yet..but when they did garner enough audience/listens his album started to sell more…and ended up going platinum after starting off with 30,000 1st week sales…Beyonce has very few single choices on the album but those 5 single worthy songs I think she is saving for last…
I live in Los Angeles and I do no hear any new Beyonce songs on the radio, only Single Ladies/Crazy in Love…. this is one of the biggest markets and it hasnt cracked on KIIS or anything. Beyonce overexposed herselft and her fans deemed her the next best thing to christ and majority of the world is tired of it… her own fanbase didnt even come out and support. Beyonce is fooling you fans into thinking this is great work, it is not… to her it is because her previous efforts have also been mediocre and full of jingles
@RATEDXXX Gaga had been talking about BTW for months and months ahead of time and even did a deal with Amazon to inflate sales. BTW isn’t a very good album IMO although I do enjoy 3 and only 3 songs on the album (Judas, Bloody Mary, Heavy Metal Lover). I also believe that Adele will do well with her next album. I just wish she would promote 21 a bit more but whether she promotes it or not obviously it’s still being bought like hotcakes and more power to her.
Isn’t it funny how TGJ is tryna make Beyonce selling 1 million copies WW in 1 month some kinda of huge feat but when Rihanna and Britney both sold 1 million in under 1 month, TGJ called them flops. Adele is probably at home sleep right now, while her album is selling 250K WW per week on average and the Beyonce stans are so pissed because Beyonce hasn’t and will sell like that. Adele is not only the chart queen of 2011, but she’s gonna be the awards queen as well. Adele is gonna sweep the Grammys in 2012 when there will be only like 70 categories and not 120+ categories and when the Grammys were nominating everybody and their grandma for Grammys and artists were winning like 5 or 6 for albums that were average at best and yes I am talking about Beyonce winning 5 for DIL and 5 for IASF, 2 albums that were typical of the time they were released. Adele is gonna show these b****** how to win a Grammy when’s there real competition.

No shade intended, but Gaga also has the force of gimmicks and pandering to gays as help for her sales. Plus she played it safe with…. Techno/Euro/Dance pop. Adele has to rely solely on her songwriting skills and voice to carry her on into the competition. That’s a tough break for her. Sorry, I didn’t catch your first comment in this flurry of comments. I have to agree with you on RTW, which I consider her s*** at the Europop fad, and BTINH, which I consider her s*** at the regular pop market, but the rest of the album is very solid.
EOT, Countdown, and so on are all things people other than Beyonce couldn’t do. If anyone else attempted it, it would be disingenuous. I feel like this whole album is uniquely Beyonce and that’s taking time for people to accept. She’s giving us something different then what we constantly hear or would expect to hear from her, that’s GROWTH. Beyonce, who had one the biggest pop songs w/ SL and who’s last album was filled with pop songs, is giving us an R&B twist now. If she was just trying to produce a hit, then we could ascertain that she had remained immature in her craft.
Sure there may be some growing pains in the attempt to separate herself from the currently trending pop dominated music industry, but it’s not as immature as you’d like to believe.

@VAN I don’t find her songs to be as immature on 4. I just feel that the album is weighed down by too many ballads and that she’s trying too hard to be seen as a mature and serious artist. People have come to think of her as someone who does Dance/Urban albums that are made almost entirely for the club. So of course trying to make the transition into more adult territory was going to be difficult for her regardless. But she didn’t come strong enough with her material and I will admit that there are some genuinely good moments on 4. But by the time you get to them you’ve usually been so weighed down by ballads that it’s hard to care. Just my opinion.

I hope Beyonce wins album of the year at the Grammy’s. Adele’s album is good, but it isn’t anything new or innovative. I get a Amy “Back to Black” feeling of Adele’s “21”. Still, there are a couple of songs that I just cannot get into. My favorites are “Someone Like You”, “Set Fire To The Rain” and “Rolling In The Deep”, and other than that, most of the album seems like fillers. #JustMyOpinion
I haven’t heard anything like Beyonce’s new album and I like every song on the standard edition. The only weakness is her song “I Care”. I do like her vocals on this song, but the song itself and the lyrical content aren’t doing it for me. The chorus seems too simple. I just love “I Was Here”, “I Miss You”, “Party” and “Countdown”. And actually the whole album. Don’t see why everybody is hyping up “Schoolin’ Life” though. Maybe it’s a grower.
And I must say that I am tired of everybody suddenly liking Adele.
You cannot possibly LOVE Adele based on your hate on Beyonce/Lady Gaga. It’s just so foolish. One of the reasons Adele is selling, I think, is that the people who buy her albums(women in their 30s-50s), don’t know how to download music illegally. You know, Rihanna’s last album was 2010s most illegally downloaded album. It was released in late November, and she still got the most downloaded album of the year. If only everybody bought real albums, her 5 million units sold would have been a lot higher. Despite selling millions and millions, I still don’t think Adele is as popular as Lady Gaga, Beyonce or Rihanna. Nor will she make a big impact on music, either.
