Nearly 10 years after landing her last Hot 100 chart-topper, Miley Cyrus – after experiencing a lukewarm era via the critically but not so commercially acclaimed ‘Plastic Hearts’ (2020) – stunned music lovers when she rebounded with her first single of 2023 and wound up owning the year’s longest-charting #1 hit by a female artist.
An out-of-the-box success, ‘Flowers‘ – the first single from her 8th studio album ‘Endless Summer Vacation‘ – came out swinging thanks to an unprecedented response on streaming platforms. Highlights among the records broken include Spotify’s most-streamed song in a week and being the fastest song in the platform’s history to surpass one billion spins.
Going on to reign over the Hot 100 for 8 non-consecutive weeks (her longest chart-topper to date), the only tune to have held the hitlist’s championship longer in 2023 was Morgan Wallen‘s history-making hit ‘Last Night.’
For those reasons and others, the Cyrus hit landed at #1 among ladies on Billboard’s 2023 Year-End Hot 100 chart. When all acts are considered, she’s #2 behind Wallen.
