Country Star Oliver Anthony Braves Continued Backlash for Calling Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ & ‘Jolene’ Remake “Cringe” & “Complete F-cking Trash”

Published: Saturday 7th Dec 2024 by Rashad

From diehard Country enthusiasts to radio stations, award shows, fellow celebrities like Courtney Love and John Schneider, and more, Beyonce‘s history-making album ‘Cowboy Carter‘ has received its fair share of headline-grabbing jeers.

This, despite being one of the year’s most acclaimed among general critics.

The latest to nab headlines for weighing in on the multi-GRAMMY-nominated project is rising Country star Christopher Anthony Lunsford (known professionally as Oliver Anthony).

Taking to YouTube earlier this week via a reflective video calledWhat I’ve Learned in the Music Industry So Far…,’ Anthony slams the music business in a profanity-laden rant.

“I don’t need a bunch of nerds and coffee-drinkin’ freaks in Nashville to tell me how to live my life. I guess that was my mistake for relying on those people, instead of relying on God and the people I trust,” he said while venting during a drive.

Even taking a dig at his own management for trying to improve his image, Oliver claims he was urged to publicly support Beyonce’s ‘Carter’ despite not believing it was praiseworthy.

“One of the guys I worked with, he wanted me to make some stupid fucking post about Beyoncé’s country album, about how it was good, even though it was complete trash. It makes me just want to throw up,” he said before later relaying, “So I was supposed to make a post, basically trying to associate myself with Beyoncé in hopes of us doing some kind of song together, but you know, how many people do that? How many artists do you follow on social media that have never even looked at their social media, and you’re just reading words and posts and things that were written by somebody that you’ve never even met, that aren’t the artist, that don’t even necessarily work directly for the artist…”

That’s not all he said; he later weighed in on the album’s fan-favorite – a remake of Dolly Parton‘s classic ‘Jolene.’

“It’s just total cringe,” he relayed. “It represents how degenerative our society has become, that a song like a Beyoncé version of ‘Jolene’ can come out and anybody actually listen to it and think it’s not just complete f-cking trash.”

Needless to say, once Bey’s beloved fan group (the #Beyhive) swarmed once they got word of his tirade.

It’s likely the ongoing backlash will only further support his decision to exit the music industry, a claim the ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ singer made earlier this year.

“I’m in the process of getting out of the music industry,” he said. “It’s a big joke. The plan is to eventually change my entire focus to traveling ministry work…I just have to go at it in baby steps since it’s completely DIY.”

  2. Justme December 7, 2024

AGAIN AGAIN we have to state, why are you posting and why are we listening to someone who started music in 2021.. like BFRFR he was 5 years old when Beyonce started in the industry. He ain’t got enough under his belt to give a critique of anything especially Beyonce. Stop posting amateurs critiquing Beyonce

      He has ears, tho.

the problem wit tgj moderators & editors is that they are obsessed with wackonce. so if someone has an opinion that dont go with theirs they portray the person as bad. its ok to not like a fake country album by a washed out 90s r&b group singer

    • TGJuicée December 10, 2024

No denying Bey succeeded in surviving musical and generational changes and, aside from the very poppish BODYGUARD, her album was country-tinted only.

People with no money ALWAYS hate on those with money.. typical.

Sad No one knows who he is or cares so he’s gonna pretend to love God lmfao.
His calling was to make unknown trash country music not be a p******** pervert pastor traveling from state to state sucking peen

Zero sympathy here. He discloses that he shared billing with another country artist who “needed several backing tracks to perform” and refused to say his/her name yet couldn’t offer Beyonce the same grace? Pass.

    He’s not wrong is he?
It was overhyped and didn’t deliver.

Well whoever this bimbo of a person is, who cares about his so call opinion. Hate on Beyoncé Al you liked but the thing is, it’s not stopping her credentials in the lease. He needs come up and who can start talking and maybe noticed now him then speak/criticize Beyoncé. HeHe’s a nobody who’s trying to become a somebody and talking about a artist who at this point in history is a well known ICON-LEGEND who always turning the shift so artist and new artist will excel and not being la el in a box 📦. Get this Moran together and maybe one day people will know who he is

Im not gonna lie, Beyonce’s version of Jolene isn’t good and is very cringe. Her calling herself a “banji B*tch from louisanne” didnt sound as cool as she thought it would.

  9. Nita December 9, 2024

Her album is f****** trash. I don’t know why she thought she could go country but it ain’t for s***

  10. Camille December 9, 2024

I agree.. Beyoncé, stay in your lane. It was bad enough that Taylor Swift squeezed in. But neither if you truly know country… So go back to what you knew and learn to accept the Fandom there and stop trying to move into the country spotlight. Geez….

If you gonna b a traveling minister loose the cussin’ cause JESUS didn’t talk like that

  14. Gregory December 9, 2024

Like much of Bey’s music, it is put out and supported by the established JayZ and Diddy collective…that is to say, if you have the money and power to push an artist, compel DJs and stations to play it…you will hit the “mark” to some degree. On the other hand…if you witnessed a Diddy party…you may not be in a position to say anything negative about it.
