Hot 100: Taylor Swift Ends Historic Reign of Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin Texas’ with ‘Patient Zero’ #1 Debut

Published: Monday 5th Oct 2026 by Rashad

Move over Ella Langley, there’s a new chart champion in town: Taylor Swift.

Just two weeks after Langley’s ‘Choosin Texas‘ galloped past Mariah Carey‘s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You‘ in Billboard Hot 100 history books for longest-reigning #1 hit ever, Swift has ended the 24-week rule of the Country superstar’s smash with the #1 debut of her latest single ‘Patient Zero.’

Taylor’s ‘Zero’ zoomed to #1 on the updated Hot 100 with the following figures:

  • Streaming ≈ 34.5 million U.S.-based streams
  • Sales ≈ 65,000 sold
  • Radio airplay ≈ 28.5 million audience impressions

Arriving at the top of the all-genre tally just four months after ‘I Knew It, I Knew You‘ granted her last history-making run at the chart’s summit, ‘Zero’ comes as the diva’s 16th #1 hit overall and 11th of the 2020s – extending her reign for most chart-toppers of any artist this century and decade respectively.

On the all-time list, only Mariah Carey (19) and The Beatles (20) have scored more since the Hot 100’s inception in 1958.

What’s more, Taylor now ties Drake for most #1 debuts in the chart’s history (10 each).

As if that’s not enough historic action attached to Swift for one week, ‘Zero’ – the first single from ‘Encore’ (the chart-topping reissue of the blockbuster ‘The Life of a Showgirl‘ album) – lead all of the project’s new tracks into the Hot 100’s top 10.

With ‘Zero’ (#1), ‘Cleveland!’ (#3), ‘Babylon’ (#4), and ‘Pink Clouding‘ (#5) on this week’s edition of the all-genre tally, Taylor extends her reign for most top 10 hits among women (74).

Among all artists, only Drake has more (90).

From one Industry plant to another. The YT agenda in America is outrageous these days and makes me sick tbh. What happened to all the black pop stars that we had years before? Smdh. God help us 😒

I think she’s gonna out do Queen Mariah for the most number 1s eventually I hate to see it because she’s no where near as talented

At least Taylor did it genuinely this time to her #1 and with legit streams from actual everyday people. PayElla Lieley’s payola team got her’s off Trumpters and Republicans. PS: where’s Kacey Musgraves at right now? We also need her in the Top 10 to put PayElla in her place.
