New Song: Monica – ‘One In A Lifetime’ (Single Version)

Published: Tuesday 22nd Dec 2009 by Sam

As previously reported, ‘One In A Lifetime’ will serve as one of Monica‘s lead singles from her forthcoming ‘Still Standing’ LP. Today saw the surfacing of the single version of the song featuring all-new vocals and mixed and mastered (an earlier draft of which has been floating around for some time now). Sounding even better, surely this is a smash-in-waiting.

  2. Steffon December 22, 2009

Nice…its about damn time she has a single. Wish her the best with the new record

  3. information December 22, 2009

Not sure how i feel about this song. It sounds pleasant enough but it’s missing that ‘ooomff’ or something. I dunno. I still dont get the sense of releasing 2 ballads to the same format….dumb!

Nice song, but I just don’t see it as a single. Def an album filler. Its just boring, you need to re invent yourself. Wish you well with your new project. I need to hear another song before I will consider buying the new record. Might do well on R&B charts but nothing else.

This song is more of a 2nd/3rd single material IMO, its NOT a bad song just not sure if its goin to be strong enough to impact the charts as a LEAD single, I’m a Monica stan so I’m buying this album and supporting her regardless! LUV HER

Not bad! I hope she gets the break she deserves with this whole project, it’ll be nice to see her on top again, it’s hard to believe her last mega-successful album was in 1998.

I love Monica. I can hear this being played in my car, all day. I heard the leaked version and fell in love with it then. I’m super excited that they finally decided on the two singles to release from her album. I don’t know why people find it so problematic that they would release two ballads… I don’t consider this song a ballad, but anyway… Monica wanted to “SING” with is album.. That is the direction of the album. TOO many artists release a singe and then when you get the album, it’s nothing like the first single, and people talk trash or are too disappointed. CLEARLY, she’s going back to her roots… TRUE R&B SOUL. ITs not for everyone.. but its definitely for me!

    WELCOME BACK MONICA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. STAN December 22, 2009

sorry, this song is super blah. she should’ve gone gone with the other option. at least that’s a real ballad.

  10. RT December 22, 2009

NOT A 1ST SINGLE, HOWEVER IT’Z A GOOD SONG, I THINK ‘INFINITY’ OR ‘EVERYTHING’ SHUD B DA SINGLE ALONG WITH AN UP TEMP TRACK. NEVERTHELESS STILL BUYIN DA ALBUM, S*** MITE EVEN PER-ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. The Truth December 22, 2009

Certified Flop. Sorry, nothing fancy about this song. Str8 album filler. Not single material at all. Ballads Ballads & Ballards . I mean come on Mo, you been in the game for a long ass time and this is what you come up with. Str8 up snorefest.

  12. Yours Truely December 22, 2009

I agree INFINITY would have been a stronger lead single for a ballad, man I wish that would have been the single!

  13. Khalil December 22, 2009

This is a great choice! I love this song and I cannot wait to hear “Love All Over Me”…we all are waiting for the ballad that I know she can do. Her vocals are on point, and oooo her runs! *TEAM MONICA*

  14. Rob December 22, 2009

This aint it. While Monica is an awesome singer she keeps coming with these lame tracks with her type of voice she doenst need the production of the song to be sooo busy. She needs to work with Ryan Tedder and go for a more pop/r&b sound instead of this ATL hood trash which does not do her voice justice. She could tear the hell up of any Leona Lewis track!

  15. TJ December 22, 2009

“ATL HOOD TRASH” what exactly is that supposed to mean? Ok, I’ll leave that one alone… There is nothing about this song that is “hood” . . Dare I say it? Haters will hate….

  16. Melly Mel December 22, 2009

Love this song!! Lyrically & Vocally Monica is bringing the heat. I think they are trying to crossover w/ this song…& i see it happening. All the rubbish on radio- its good to have a song w/ some substance. In this day & age its all about timing & i think people are ready for some real R&B again. From Still Standing, Everything 2 Me, Love Over Me, Infinity & this song…Monica is SANGING!! Real Sangers Stand Up!!! Gotta support real music…

  17. cheryl December 22, 2009

go monica, i loves this and waiting to hear love all over me…monica has a superb voice what r&b is missing..i will be buying this album!

  18. GeeMan December 22, 2009

I like this song this song has crossover appeal which Monica needs at this point. All over me is straight R&B fire.

  19. MFO December 22, 2009

The song is dope I think it will do wonders for Monica’s returning career. Good Job on picking this as a single. It’s not about following trends and doing whats hot. Its about doing what works for you and with this song Monica is definitely doing just that. From the vocals to the lyrics the song is on point and no one can deny that. Bravo.

  20. keeping it real December 23, 2009

Amazing,Monica vocals are on point. She really has grown vocally and can’t wait for her ablum. Yes i think infinity should have been released as a single.

  21. Mr.727 December 23, 2009

@ Rob, I agree with you!!! The ATL sound is sooooooooo over!! It was cool when the snap sound from ATL was pooping, but now bluhhhhhhhhhh!!!! She has a beautiful voice, but these producers of her have no soul!!!!!! All they know is the digital sound!!!! Leave these f****** computers alone and just have a live band, like Fanny Mae did!! I know her new album is going to be the s*** (I hope)! Monica I LOVE YOU GIRL ,BUT YOU GOTS TO COME MORE HARDER!

  22. TJ December 23, 2009

Rob and Mr. 727 I want to know what the hell you two are talking about? You clearly are not from the ATL. This song has NOTHING to do with ATL, nor it’s sound… There is NOTHING on her album that has anything to do with the ATL sound. You two sound so incredibly stupid.

  23. Ms StaceyK December 23, 2009

I LOVE MO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She can sing ooo, la, la over and over on a track and I’m still down .. I love the R&B coming back 🙂

  24. ladia December 23, 2009

    This a hit.

  25. MR. STILL STANDING December 24, 2009

First off, this isn’t the ONLY single she’s releasing. It’s a f****** dual release. “One In A Lifetime” and “Love All Over Me” will both be released at the same time and her album’s coming out in February or March.

Monica’s doing what her so called fans wanted and that’s to hear her sing again. Sing more ballad-type records that showcase her vocals more. She’s doing mid-tempos and up-tempo. Monica’s not only trying to please her LOYAL fanbase, but also the younger generation. Every though, my first choice would be “Infinity”, this song has crossover appeal. It can be played on pop stations.

“One In A Lifetime” is a good song and everyone wanted Mo to go back to real R&B and now that she’s doing that, people still bitching about it. They bitched in 2006 when “Everytime Tha Beat Drop” came out and now that she’s not doing gimmicky, fly by night records, THEY STILL BITCHING!

  26. TJ December 24, 2009

Mr. Still Standing… I agree with you… I’ll be one of the first people in line to buy my copies of her CD… People can’t be pleased. They have to b**** about everything.

  27. chris December 24, 2009

LOVE IT! i also cant wait for love all over me! thats the money shot. once u guys hear it, ull see how smooth is goes down!

  28. bay bay bay December 24, 2009

i like this better than the first version that was leaked like a year ago…but i was a bit upset to kno that this was their first single choice. i agree that INFINITY/LOVE ALL OVER ME should have been the first singles! o well i hope that she does great this time around regardless! im a fan 4life!

  29. frenchy December 25, 2009
