Jason Derulo Defends ‘CATS’ After Dismal Reviews: “They Don’t Matter”

Published: Friday 27th Dec 2019 by Sam

With ‘CATS’ being ravaged by reviewers, its stars are either staying mute or speaking up in defence of the box office catastrophe.

Jason Derulo is doing the latter.

Full story below…

The singer, who plays Rum Tum Tugger in the Tom Hooper flick, offered the following to TMZ when quizzed on the reviews that preceded the movie’s dismal $6 million debut:

“Reviews don’t matter, man. Reviews don’t matter. At the end of the day, people are gonna go see it, and it’s going to be a deportation to another dimension. It’s an incredible, brave piece of art. And it always been that way. When it came out on Broadway, people were saying, ‘What is this? It’s something totally different.’ But we — any time that you defy what an art form is, any time you defy rules, there’s gonna be some pushback, obviously, but it’s an incredible piece of art done by some of the best people in the world. Tom Hooper’s a class act. I don’t think there’s another director out there that’s more classy than he is. So yeah, I’m just excited for the people to actually see it. Reviewers, what do they know? Have they made a film ever in their life?”

While we get Derulo’s upbeat sentiment, it’s become clear that the film hasn’t found the audience he speaks of.

Judging by his entire musical catalogue, it’s clear he’s always been a fan of “positive” reviews.

      ???

  4. Clarks0oñ December 27, 2019

Gurl the budget for this disaster was 100 million dollars, not including promo and advertising.

Reviews are the reason why people are staying away from this movie.

  5. Adele December 27, 2019

Narrator: People didn’t go to see it.

  6. #TheTruth December 27, 2019

I agree with him, I’ve always said that to my family and friends.
I could care less about critics. If a movie sounds appealing to me, I’ll go see it and make my OWN opinion.
Why would I care what someone else thinks ? Because they are paid way too much money to give their 2 cents ? GTFO.

    • XYZ December 27, 2019

But we saw the trailer. And people are obviously not into it

      • #TheTruth December 27, 2019

I’m not criticizing the fact people don’t like the movie.

I’m criticizing the fact that people put critics on a pedestal when they are just people like you and I who happen to be paid to give their opinion. Who cares what they think ?

Now regarding movies in general, yes a trailer is suppose to tease your appetite.
That being said, I think the trailer for this movie was horrible as there is zero music featured in it.

Regarding the CGI, besides the details that were not finished – they corrected it – I understand what they tried to do.
If they transformed the characters fully into cat faces, it would have become an animated movie, like the Lion King, which is just a vocal/dubbing/singing performance.
Even tho it looks surprising, I don’t think it’s as bad as people pretend it is. But I respect everyone’s opinion.

Their biggest mistake was to rush the release so it would fit the awards calendar.
I also think the music wasn’t properly promoted to raise people‘s interest.
The whole campaign was not well thought out and this has nothing to do with the budget, just bad decisions.

      Acting like he’s relevant.

      Takes serious acting chops!

I saw the movie. Jason did great. He can act and obviously sing well. I couldn’t understand much of the singing that the cast did though. It was an ok movie.

  9. SMH December 27, 2019

Lol. It was STUPID idea to turn this into a live action movie in the first place.

  10. I love big black c** December 27, 2019

Man, I’m still obsessed with his d-I-c-k pic. When can we get the U**** version? Lol

  11. Only facts December 27, 2019

Jason, STFU. Good luck with anyone taking you serious after this. Not that they took you serious to begin with…

    • LOL December 27, 2019

Just like his album sales FLOP.

  12. Fancy BISH December 27, 2019

Tell em, Jason! Looking fine and clean like Prince Akeem lol ?? This has all the makings of a future cult film and the talent behind it is enormous! Spielberg/Amblin, Webber, Hooper…just watch!

    • PinotNoir December 27, 2019

      Gurl, plz!

They made him look 60 in the movie.

  13. LOTUS December 27, 2019

Jason shut up you lame, non-factor. His entire persona is so wack and maybe if he spent more time talking about the movie instead of his very average looking peen things would be different.

He should stick to what he’s good at, making cliche late 2000 sounding pop music.

  14. eric December 27, 2019

If it’s true that they changed the choregraphy, the characters and plot, that might be good reason why it’s underperforming.

    • #TheTruth December 27, 2019

How can they change it ? It’s supposed to respect the original storyline.

They corrected the CGI with goofs here and there. Nothing else. People make up whatever these days.

Whoever seems interested, like the original musical, like some of the cast or whatever, go see it, don’t pay attention to critics who are nothing but one more opinion.

I’m not into musicals so I don’t have much interest.
The trailer, even tho it features no music, has a charming mysterious atmosphere. So maybe I’ll give it a try.

  15. Belcalis December 27, 2019

He sounded good in the movie though

  16. Dc December 27, 2019

Well it flopped so where all the people that gonna see it ??

  17. PinotNoir December 27, 2019

    They don’t matter …

    Does he mean his singles?

    ?

    • Tino December 27, 2019

      His entire career lol

      • PinotNoir December 28, 2019

Didn’t know he had one. ?

I guess career = time between hits.

  18. Tino December 27, 2019

I knew this would flop the moment I seen Jason Norulo was in it lol. I’ll never understand how this generic bubble gum flop get these opportunities SMMFH

    • PinotNoir December 28, 2019

He pouts if you don’t swoon over his peen. And the entertainment big wigs giving him such opportunities probably do JUST THAT—swoon, suck, and sign fat checks. ?

  19. stan December 28, 2019

except that people aren’t going out to see it, so…
