Embattled singer/actor Jussie Smollett may have seen the first set of charges surrounding his alleged “hoax hate crime” mysteriously dropped (click here to read more), but if Illinois court officials have their way the 37-year-old won’t luck out twice.
The Illinois Supreme Court on Friday (March 6) denied actor Jussie Smollett’s attempts to thwart a felony court case against him, the second time he’s been formally accused of lying about a Chicago hate crime he said took place early last year.
The clerk of the Illinois high court published a pair of terse notices, saying simply that Smollett’s motions both to halt the case and to disqualify its special prosecutor have been denied. No explanations were given.
The latest development comes less than two weeks after the former ‘Empire’ star pleaded not guilty to six counts filed in a grand jury indictment. Click here to read more about that.
