Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s acclaimed Marvel series ‘Wonder Man’ has been dealt a major reversal at Disney+.
Just four months after the streamer confirmed a second season, the follow-up is no longer moving forward. The decision brings an unexpectedly swift end to one of the MCU’s rare live-action shows to earn a renewal.

According to Variety, a writers’ room for the new chapter was never opened. The writers attached to the show have now been released to pursue other projects.
The move is especially striking because ‘Wonder Man’ arrived with critical praise and awards recognition. Abdul-Mateen II earned an Emmy nomination for his performance as actor-turned-superhero Simon Williams, while the first season scored a 91% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Co-created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, the eight-episode comedy also starred Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery. Its Hollywood-centered story followed the unlikely pair as they chased roles in a superhero remake, allowing Marvel to turn the camera on the entertainment machine behind its own genre.
Disney+ did not release official viewership figures. However, the series reached number eight on Nielsen’s streaming originals chart during its launch week before falling out of the top 10 the following frame. No official reason has been announced for the reversal.
Still, the door may not be fully closed on Simon and Trevor. Sources say characters introduced in the series could surface in other Marvel projects, meaning the cancellation may end the show without ending their wider MCU journey.
Abdul-Mateen II, meanwhile, remains booked with projects including Netflix’s ‘Man on Fire’ and ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth.’

Hope Black people support Black indie because Hollywood is not and never has been it. Black Panther, Sinners…they were supposed to be big deals..and nothing after.
