Music royals are a rarity in today’s blink and you miss it Pop culture climate.

However, last night Janet Jackson showed and proved that her crown not only remains in intact, but also that it hasn’t lost any of its shine.

The Queen of Pop took to the stage in Vancouver, Canada to perform the first show on her hotly anticipated ‘Unbreakable World Tour’ — and Ms. Jackson did not disappoint.

Her past jaunt saw the singer journey through the hits, yet this trek smartly does that while laying the foundation for her eagerly awaited new album, ‘Unbreakable.’

So while the likes of ‘All For You,’ ‘If,’ and ‘Nasty’ were delivered with fine finesse, new numbers such as ‘No Sleeep’ and the LP’s title track were introduced live. The Missy Elliott assisted opener, believed to be titled ‘Burn It Up,’ received an especially roaring reception. [Editor’s note: it’d be almost criminal if this isn’t a single. Preferably the next single. But we digress…]

In other Jackson news, the superstar’s current single ‘No Sleeep’ returned to #1 on the Billboard Adult R&B songs chart — coincidentally on the the same day the tour kicked off.

Racy Rita Ora steamed screens across the globe recently with the unleashing of the video for ‘Body On Me’ – her sensual duet with Chris Brown.

Lifted from the 24-year-old’s new album, due in November, the track serves as the LP’s first global offering and is already off to a blazing start digitally (having amassed over 10 million views).

Keen to keep the momentum going, Team Rita have unveiled a behind the scenes look at how the Colin Tilley directed visual was pieced together.

According to the Roc Nation princess, the video concept changed three times – with initial treatments including a beach vid as well as an exotic desert clip.

New music isn’t the only treat Rihanna has in store for her fans this year.

Yesterday saw the ‘Music of the Sun’ vocalist make her way to New York City to launch her latest fragrance ‘RIRI’ which nabbed its very own launch event at Macy‘s.

The star dropped the scent with the forthcoming holiday season in mind and posed for pictures with its bottle before meeting with fans who caught her live in promotional action.

Hip-Hop titan Kanye West is the latest name to receive MTV‘s coveted ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.’

The rapper was ironically presented with the honor by Taylor Swift – the star whose name he arguably blasted into the stratosphere when interrupting her winning speech in 2009.

Unlike previous winners Justin Timberlake and Beyonce, Yeezy did not perform at the event – which took place at the Microsoft Theater. Instead, in true “Kanye” fashion, he gave a spirited 13 minute speech.

In an interview with ‘The New York Times’ Pop purveyor Miley Cyrus used her position as the host of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards to accuse the rapper Nicki Minaj of being an unkind and irrational person.

Why? Last month saw Minaj take to social media to lambast the media for it’s supposed problem with “spicy” music videos when led by fuller figured women of colour.

Miley didn’t agree with her and held nothing back when she weighed in on the matter here.

So there’s no doubt that her fans were surprised when she had all of nothing to say when Minaj confronted her…on live television.

What happened when the rapper called her out as she accepted the ‘Best Hip Hop Video’ award for her ‘Anaconda’ visual at the aforementioned awards ceremony.
