Saweetie‘s ‘Tap In’ was one of only four solo female Rap songs to tap into the Hot 100’s top 20 in 2020 – a double edged win as it only increased commercial performance expectations for its follow-up, the Jhene Aiko-assisted ‘Back to the Streets.’

Released October 22, the Timbaland-produced bop was off to a promising start when it lodged the femcee’s highest premiere on the chart ever (as we reported here).  The very next week, however, it vanished from the tally.

To help it rebound, Saweetie tapped music video director extraordinaire Dave Meyers to bring the song to life – a process documented during an episode of her YouTube web series, ‘The Icy Life.’

The female Rap scene has seen the introduction of a wave of major names over the last decade. Artists like  Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and the City Girls have proven that they possess the lyrics, flow and aesthetic to back up their buzz.

Indeed their songs not only have us bopping in the car, but also have empowered many young women to be themselves… unapologetically.

After a lengthy drought and bewildering “one-at-a-time entrance policy,” the industry has been blessed with the emergence of so much talent unilaterally.

With all of this, there’s been an influx of new names making a splash – as well as a few that may have flown under the radar.

Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you covered.

Detractors who thought Saweetie‘s 2x Platinum breakthrough hit, ‘My Type,’ would be the last time the rising rapstress saw her name typed in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40 were sadly mistaken.

The updated chart reveals ‘Tap In,’ the lead single from her forthcoming debut album ‘Pretty B*tch Music,’ has tapped into the #31 spot on the tally – cracking the top 40 for the first time since its June 17-premiere.

At one point struggling to find footing on the hit list, ‘Tap’ – which features a prominent sample of Too $hort hit ‘Blow the Whistle’ – blew into the top 40 on the wings of a viral Tik Tok dance challenge.  Later calling on the likes of DaBaby, Jack Harlow, and Post Malone to assist with the tune’s remix (which can by heard by clicking here), ‘Tap’ stands to rise to even higher Hot 100 heights next week.

Until we find out or sure, look below to see who joins Saweetie in the top 40 of this week’s TGJ Chart Check.

With modest airplay, streaming, and digital downloads to its credit since arriving on May 22, ‘Need It’ – the collaborative single of Migos and YoungBoy Never Broke Again has managed to maintain buoyancy on the lower half of the Hot 100 (peaking at #62 to date).

In an effort to push it to higher heights on the tally, they tapped Wyatt Winfrey to direct the tune’s cinematic music video – which acts as nod to The Wayans Bros. 1996 classic parodic comedy, ‘Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.’
