“Dearly beloved… we have gathered here today… to get through this thing called life!”

By now we figure you have guessed that this week’s From The Vault pick is none other than Prince‘s ever-legendary ‘Let’s Go Crazy,’ which topped the charts exactly 35 years ago today.

With its eulogy-themed intro, ‘Crazy’ was the second single from the artist’s monumental LP ‘Purple Rain’ released in 1984. It was also the opening song on the movie of the same name. Urging the listener to bypass the drama and chose to be upbeat, the funk-rock number was the singer’s second consecutive #1 in the US following the set’s lead ‘When Doves Cry’ and was a concert staple. The cut was a #2 charting single in Canada and also a Top 10 in both the UK and Australia where it peaked at #7 and #10 respectively.

The video for the track was compiled of of cuts from the blockbuster ‘Purple Rain’ movie, which stared the purple one alongside protégé Apollonia and Morris Day – who played his arch nemesis. Three decades later, it continues to serve as a great representation of the mid-80s rock show dynamic.

Just like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, Prince’s star has never stopped shining posthumously; a true testament to his extensive body of work which continues to inspire the latest crop of new artists the way it has the previous generation.

[On a random but relevant note, social media has also somehow managed to keep the spirits and personalities of these artists alive and they end up regular faces in our respective digital feeds.

Dearly beloved, we have written this today to say thank you, to Mister Nelson, for blessing the world at large with his multi-dimensional talent.

After springing a successful spinoff to Freeform in the form of the Yara Shahidi-led ‘Grown-ish,’ ABC’s hit series ‘Black-ish’ attempts to prove itself evergreen by sprouting a prequel in the form of the Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tika Sumpter-toplined ‘Mixed-ish.’

Executive produced by creator Kenya Barris and Tracee Ellis Ross (who portrays ‘Rainbow Johnson’ on ‘Black-ish’), ‘Mixed-ish’ tells the story of Ross’ character growing up as a biracial child in the 1980’s. Loosely based on the early life of Dr. Rania Barris (co-creator Kenya’s soon-to-be former wife), the comedy series also chronicles the dilemmas her family faces trying to adjust from “hippie life” to suburbia.

Despite being given an extra promotional push by securing biracial Pop icon Mariah Carey to sing its theme song (as we reported here), the series premiered on September 24 to a moderate audience.  Details inside:
