After suffering the ‘L’ that was 2017’s ‘Witness,’ Pop singer Katy Perry‘s time away from the music scene – albeit brief – has served as a recharge of sorts for the songstress as well as Pop music lovers, a feat evidenced by the ongoing successes of her 2019 singles ‘Never Really Over’ and its Charlie Puth-produced follow-up, ‘Small Talk.’

While the former gave the Grammy-nominee her first top 20 hit on the Hot 100 in over 2 years (as we reported here), the latter – released August 9 – is just heating up at radio and streaming.  Before its debut at #81 on this week’s main singles chart, Perry endured a bit of controversy after being subjected to accusations of plagiarism when fans of New Zealand Pop duo Broods complained ‘Talk’s promotional vertical music video was strikingly similar to the artwork for the their new album.

Now, with the chatter from that behind her, Katy’s ready to unleash the official accompanying visual of her next soon-to-be-hit. Set for an August 30 premiere, the singer invited her fans – affectionately called #KatyCats – behind the scenes to witness the planning behind the music video’s dog-heavy concept treatment.  See it inside:

Not even a collection of stage-blazing performances from the likes of Missy Elliott, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Normani, and Taylor Swift were enough to help the MTV VMAs drum up an increase in viewership. After netting their worst ratings ever with the 2018 showing (click here for details), the hopes were probably a bit higher for the 2019 edition.

Preliminary figures revealed after its first airing offered a bleak outlook, one confirmed by newly furnished final figures that indicate this year’s take on the annual awards show were their lowest in history.

But, it’s not all bad news.  Click below to see what we mean:

August 2019 has given Christina Aguilera much to celebrate.

For, just days before commemorating the 20th anniversary of the release of her self-titled debut album (August 24),  Xtina was on hand at the kick-off ceremony for the D23 Expo (the Disney fan convention).  There, the 38-year-old was among a dozen famous faces honored with the prestigious ‘Disney Legend’ award – an esteemed honor bestowed to individuals who have ‘made remarkable contributions to the Disney legacy.’ Joining the ranks of Robert Downey, Jr., Robin Roberts, and more, fans familiar with Aguilera’s career trajectory know her longstanding history with Mickey Mouse as she got her start as a Mouseketeer kid on ‘The All New Mickey Mouse Club’ in the early 1990s before jump-starting her recording career with 1998’s ‘Reflection’ (the theme song from the animated feature film, ‘Mulan’).

In addition to accepting the honor as a Disney legend – an accomplishment she bragged was ‘better than winning a Grammy’ – the five-time Grammy winner blessed the audience with a stirring live performance of the song that started it all.

Two days later and fans are still gushing over Normani‘s epic getdown at this year’s MTV VMAs (August 26).

Not only coming as her inaugural solo outing on the ceremony, the high octane showing also provided the debut televised performance of her official debut solo single, ‘Motivation.’  Bringing to life choreography found aboard its Dave Meyers-directed visual (which can be seen by clicking here), the official ‘Motivation’ clip boasts homage to a number of stage-blazers who have inspired Normani over the years including Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and Britney Spears.

The latter, whose basketball court scene from her own debut music video – ‘Baby One More Time’ – can be seen referenced in the former Fifth Harmony darling’s video also served as inspiration for her staging at the 2019 MTV VMAs, as revealed in a recent interview.

Dishing with our friends at Entertainment Tonight recently, look inside to hear Normani reflect on the ‘blood, sweat, and tears’ that went into the planning of the performance and how she looked to Miss Spears’ catalog of epic VMA showings as a muse:

50 Cent‘s not done going off on the Emmy Academy.

The business mogul, who serves as producer for STARZ’s flagship series, ‘Power,’ made headlines last month when he asserted racism was the reason the show has yet to be honored with a golden statuette.  Beyond garnering acclaim from viewers and industry critics alike, the Omari Hardwick-led drama has been ratings winner over its tenure – a feat repeated after its season 6 premiere on August 25th.

Topping the night’s viewership numbers among all scripted series on cable, ‘Power’ drew in over 1.47 million viewers (as we reported here).  Despite its ongoing popularity, it continues to be ignored by the Emmy Academy and now 50’s had enough of the disregard.

Taking to Instagram, he went on a profanity-fueled rant to let them know just how he feels ahead of the ceremony’s telecast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22.  See it below:
