Will the delayed clip be just what the tune needs to boost it back to its former top 20 glory?

If you’re anything like us then the July 1st premiere of ‘Power’s season 5 can’t come soon enough.

The series – led by Omari Hardwick, 50 Cent, Joseph Sikora, Lela Loren, and Naturi Naughton – has been a consistent ratings champion for its home network, STARZ, since its 2014 debut and the anticipation for season numero cinco suggests that won’t change any time soon.

Already picked up for a season 6 before the first episode of its fifth (click here to read more on that), catch up with Ghost and the gang via this recently unveiled trailer:

With ‘Culture II’ hits – ‘Stir Fry’ and the Drake-assisted hit ‘Walk It Talk It’ – both walking right into the top 20 of the Hot 100 (the latter after a little help from its ‘Soul Train’-inspired music video that can be seen by clicking here), rap trio Migos is still far from resting on their laurels.

Also found aboard the Birdman-led ‘Before Anythang:  The Cash Money Story’ soundtrack, the Atlantan emcees can be heard contributing the synth-soaked song ‘F*cking Up Profits.’

Produced by Buddah Bless, the cut may not see them stray too far from their usual topics lyrically (heauxs, stuntin,’ etc.),but sonically it is more akin to West Coast hip-hop than their Grammy-nominated trap-tinged offerings of releases past.

The Weeknd surprised fans over the weekend when he dropped an unexpected EP, ‘My Dear Melancholy.’

The six song set, highlighted by production from the likes of Mike WILL Made-It, Skrillex, Frank Dukes, and more while only boasting one feature courtesy of French DJ Gesaffelstein, quickly shot to the top of digital sales tallies (where it currently sits as of time reported).  And, with all chart placement factors considered – sales & streaming – the project has been predicted to easily top the Billboard 200 as well (click here to read more on that).

In a bid to ensure a lengthy distance between himself and his nearest competitor, the 3-time Grammy winner has teamed with Spotify to exclusively offer the mixtape’s first two videos – ‘Call My Name’ & ‘Try Me.’  See them both inside:

“I’m swaggin’, I’m swaggin’, I’m swaggin’, I’m swaggin’”

From The Vault skews racy this week with Keri Hilson’s edgy ‘The Way You Love Me.’

A love song of a different kind to say the least, ‘Love Me’ was included on Keri’s sophomore effort ‘No Boys Allowed’ in 2010.

At the time, the Rick Ross assisted jam was quite controversial due to its no hold barred lyrical content. Indeed, in many ways the song dually served as a braggadocios account of her bedroom gravitas and an emphatic instruction manual for her male companion.

For Hilson though, the main message was one of female empowerment – something she stressed many times in promotional interviews.

The formidable Laurieann “Boom Kack” Gibson directed the fiery visual. With cameos from JoJo, Dawn Richard, Columbus Short and Faith Evans, the video managed to solidly capture the essence of suggestive tune. Guns, frantic choreography, and scant outfits made it more than clear: the new and improved “Ms Keri Baby” had arrived.

[Sidenote: It’s mind-boggling how tame this plays today compared to the jaw-dropping response that greeted this on release.]

********

We’re scratching our heads at how 8 years have flown by without any new Keri material. It’s been teased in earnest, but we hope to see a return in the coming months of an artist who seemed to be on the cusp of something big.

Ready when you are, Keri.

Your thoughts?
