The year is 1999 and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige is releasing her 4th studio album, the critically acclaimed (yet slightly underrated) ‘Mary’.

Classic in many a way, the LP’s lead single ‘All That I Can Say’ is the object of this week’s From The Vault.

The Lauryn Hill helmed track demonstrates, like oh so many others, that Ms Blige is undeniably a sensational songstress. While not as straight-forward and in-your-face as most of her signature hits (‘Real Love’, ‘Family Affair’, ‘Be Without You’), the laid-back groove still makes for an interesting listen. Mary shows that she is as comfortable using her lower register than she is belting high notes. Furthermore, the grittiness and overall rawness of her vocal here is a true testament to the genuinety the ‘No More Drama’ singer embeds in her music.

Released in the summer of ’99, a time when bubble-gum Pop was ruling the airwaves (Britney, Christina and co), this song never garnered the recognition it deserved. However, with its unashamed adult flavour and positive vibe, it really postmarked of Mary’s growth as an artist.

Mary, more feel-good songs like this on on ‘My Life II’, please!

Earplugs at the ready? Pop princess Rihanna took to ‘The Today Show‘ stage moments ago to perform some of her celebrated hits. The nasal nymphomaniac wowed fans with renditions of ‘Only Girl‘ as well as smash hit ‘S&M‘ and more.

Next month sees the model kick off  to her long awaited ‘Loud Tour’ and if today’s performance is an indicator, it should be avoided like the plague. Unless being subjected to the screams of a goat in labor is your thing?

Lady GaGa‘s explanations of her videos have almost become as wacky as the clips themselves. Indeed, the 25 year old is renown for serving up prolific break-down’s of her video offerings; something which makes her recent comments about her ‘Telephone’ clip somewhat surprising.

For, in a recent interview with Time Out, the Pop force slams the Jonas Akerlund helmed video. This, despite praising it upon its release in February last year.

What to do when your musical efforts have been shunned on mass? Why, of course, you cover an R&B classic. One by Aaliyah at that.

This, unfortunately, was the rationale of former B2K star Omarion, who today released his own rendition of the late diva’s ‘One In A Million’.

Ironically, his version was just that – yet for all the wrong reasons. Listen, at your risk, below. And yes, it’s as shocking as you think…

Rihanna debuted a brand new hair do during a performance in Germany last night. In true Fenty fashion, the starlet was able to distract German fans from her nasally grunts with a new Diana Ross inspired wig.

The ‘California King Bed singer was performing at the Nivea Skin Journey aboard the Nivea Blue Boat and met up with fans.

Unlike the Titanic, though, the only tragedy this boat suffered was the sound of RiRi bleating her hamburger hits.

Rihanna invites viewers into her ‘California King Bed’ in the video for the latest single from her ‘Loud’ LP. The nasal sensation shot the clip back in March, pacing out its release as she preps for the launch of her ‘Loud Tour’ – which kicks off next month.

Yet, with US audiences avoiding the trek like she does her vocal coach, one has to wonder if the model can stimulate interest with the release of the Nivea-sponsored video. Judge for yourself after the jump…

Time sure flies when you’re at the top. Ask Alicia Keys. Despite her debut seemingly hitting stores just yesterday, it has – in actuality – been 10 years since ‘Songs In A Minor’ catapulted the singer-songwriter to superstardom.

To celebrate this milestone, Keys and her label are releasing a commemorative edition of the LP, which will be supported by an exclusive New York gig, a performance slot at this year’s BET Awards, and more.
