Welcome to another edition of Retro Rewind, the original TGJ feature launched to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious and educational past.

Today, our journey takes us to 2011,the year in which ‘Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story‘ was released.

Directed by Daniel Birman, the documentary follows the life of sixteen-year-old Cyntoia Brown after she is imprisoned for the murder of a 43-year-old real estate agent named Johnny Allen.

What Birman discovers while on his journey to Brown’s past shines a troubling light on the judicial system’s unfair handling of African-American minors and the harrowing realities faced by young girls forced into the sex trade.

Vocal wonder Ariana Grande is leaving no stone unturned in the push for her new album ‘Dangerous Woman.’

The 23-year-old’s latest stop was Japan’s Music Station, where she performed current single ‘Into You.’

Thus far, the track has peaked at #50 in the region and #47 on home soil. Hence, the promo is most definitely needed.

Named after an area code in her hometown of Los Angeles, the short, but sweet six-song set is already earning many-a-thumbs up from critics – especially for ‘Kickin Back’ (its “lead single” that went to radio today).

Music’s first couple Beyonce and Jay Z were snapped cozying up at the at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Area last night.

The power pair were in attendance for the NBA finals match between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.

It figures why Queen Bey is lapping up the downtime; she’s set to kick off the European leg leg of her ‘Formation World Tour’ in two weeks.

The trek has being playing to US audiences since the end of April and will return to the region later this Fall.
