Still proving that girls really do run this motha-, gal pals Katy Perry and Rihanna‘s reigns on singles charts just won’t let up.  The latter, finding herself atop Billboard Hot 100 for the 7th week with monster hit ‘We Found Love’ and the former getting one step closer to the top with ‘The One That Got Away’ (jumping from 9-4). By no means unfamiliar territory, the Bajan beauty’s previous efforts ‘Umbrella’ and ‘The Way You Lie’ both dominated the Hot 100 for 7 weeks with the help of hip-hop heavyweights Jay Z and Eminem respectively .  However, if Ms. Fenty manages to stay atop the chart for two more weeks she will best herself and tie fellow-talentless mannequin Ke$ha‘s ‘Tik Tok’ for the longest #1 run of the noughties.

And, while Perry’s ascension was undoubtedly assisted by the availability of her single for .69 cent purchase recently, the newly announced forthcoming B.O.B. remix to the song may give it that push it needs to notch her 6th #1 single.  If such happens, she will be the first artist in history to nab 6 #1 singles from one album (presently tying both Michael Jackson‘s 5 #1s and nearing Janet Jackson‘s 7 top ten singles from one album record).

Elsewhere on the singles charts, Adele and Christina/Maroon 5 move into the #7 and #8 spots respectively, Flo Rida‘s ‘Good Feeling’ makes good with #5, ‘Watch the Throne’ co-stars Jay Z and Kanye West watch the #6 spot, and T-Pain‘s ‘5 O’Clock’ crashes in at #10.  The album charts sees jazz crooner Michael Buble reasserting his domination as his holiday set moved an impressive 450-500k after nearly two months of release.  (source)

Over-the-top.com singer/songwriter/producer Tamar Braxton has certainly made headlines over the last year as the most brazen of the Braxtons.  With her eye-catching fashions and mouth to match , the youngest of the Braxton clan’s quest to conquer many-an-entertainment platform maybe one step closer to completion.  Though dressing Season 1 of their hit reality show Braxton Family Values with complaints about singing in sister Toni‘s shadow,  her days of ‘doo-wop-pop-pop’ may be coming to a stop as news has surfaced today that Tamar, along with husband/manager Vince Herbert, are set to star in their own reality show.

Putting the married couple as the focal of the madness, not many details have been unveiled about the forthcoming venture.   And, while fans will no doubt be in a frenzy over the announcement, they will not have long to wait as the premiere is due in 2012.  Until then, catch the duo on WeTV’s ‘Braxton Family Values’ tonight at 9/8 c.

As anticipation mounts for the reboot of VH1’s famed diva-filled spectacular, the music channel announced a new reason for fans to tune in.  Already boasting big names like Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, and American Idol alums Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, VH1 unveiled today that the ‘soul-themed’ showing will also include a tribute to fallen soul singer Amy Winehouse.  The 27-year-old, whose untimely death rocked the music world this past summer, is set to be honored by fellow blue eyed soulstress Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, rapper Nas, and more.

The news surfaces days after the singer’s recently released, posthumous album ‘Lioness:  Hidden Treasures’ roared onto U.K. charts with impressive numbers.  ‘Divas Celebrate Soul’ airs December 19th at 9pm on VH1.  This year’s show is also set to include performances by Jessie J and veteran R&B group Boyz II Men.

Ashanti is back!

As earlier reported, the R&B songstress is set to make another crack at the charts, opting this go round to go the independent route by way of her own label Written Entertainment.

The lead single from her first venture under the new model has been confirmed as the Busta Rhymes assisted ‘The Woman You Love’ – the cover of which surfaced today.

Needless to say ‘striking’ would be an understatement. Ms. Douglas looks stunning! Let’s hope the handling of the project embodies similar characteristics. For, while the independent route is hailed for cutting out the overheads and putting more coin in the artist’s pocket, Ashanti is -once again-tossing her hat into the ever-crowded market that is female R&B. As such, is mediocre chart success (in exchange for a bigger slice of the financial pie) sufficient when you’ll be measured against the likes of the Beyonce‘s and Rihanna‘s of the world? Whatever the case, it’ll be uber interesting to see how this plays out.
