Though comprised of seasoned writers who share a similar outlook on Urban Pop culture, the idiosyncrasies of the TGJ team members often lend for quite heated debates “behind the scenes” about the hottest topics.

Now, we give you a front row seat to the show. In a format similar to ‘The View’ or ‘The Real,‘ TGJ editors – Sam, David, Rashad, and Joe – get candid like never before.

Kehlani fans apparently couldn’t wait to get their hands on her sophomore album, ‘It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.’

The follow-up to 2017’s ‘SweetSexySavage,’ the May 8 released set – preceded by critically acclaimed singles ‘Everybody Business,’ ‘Toxic,’ and ‘FM&U’ – is a 15-track LP that boasts an impressive list of guest stars including Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, James Blake, Lucky Daye, and more.

After zooming to #1 on real-time iTunes sales tallies just hours after its unveiling (as we reported here), industry analysts predicted the project would shift 60,000-65,000 units by the end of its inaugural tracking week.  Now, reports indicate they were under count by a considerable sum.

On May 9, Neo-Soul Queens Jill Scott and Erykah Badu were the queens of hearts as they turned their highly anticipated ‘VERZUZ’ battle into an undeniable lovefest and declaration of sisterhood.

The first female combatants to virtually duke it out on the wildly popular platform, Badu Vs. Scott boasted Michelle Obama, Spike Lee, and Janet Jackson among the 700,000 viewers it amassed at one point during the live session.  With those numbers the GRAMMY winners surpassed the viewership figures of the previous record-holders (Babyface vs. Teddy Riley) by well over 200,000 viewers.

As if that win wasn’t enough to celebrate, the love from those watching the digital duel spilled over to digital charts as some of the ladies’ most prized entries from their respective discographies shot up iTunes charts.

Megan Thee Stallion fans rejoiced when the femcee tapped fellow Houston hitmaker Beyoncé to feature on her megahit, ‘Savage.’

Despite blasting to the top of iTunes and Apple Music tallies mere hours after its release, however, the J. White Did It-produced cut wasn’t exactly a shoo-in for #1 on next week’s Billboard Hot 100 as stiff competition came in the form of another diva duet – Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Say So.’

Mid-week predictions may have suggested Stallion and Queen Bey had the win in the bag given their domination of streaming outlets (as we reported here), but updated figures suggest ‘Say’ still has a chance to top the Hot 100 due to an oft-overlooked component of data calculated to determine chart placements:  radio.

The bid to beat the Beyonce-enlisted version of Megan The Stallion‘s ‘Savage’ revved up after industry analysts predicted the J. White-produced tune would top next week’s Billboard Hot 100 (as we reported here).

Despite knocking it from atop iTunes charts Thursday (May 7), Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Say So’ remix still lagged behind in streaming.  To increase engagement on that front, Cat and team have unleashed the original cut of the revamped mix.
