In disheartening news that ironically comes as little surprise, R. Kelly – presently at the center of a media firestorm thanks to the scathing Lifetime documentary ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ – is still enjoying the fruit of the very labor designed to bring him down.

The three part docuseries, which features interviews and cameos from the Grammy winner’s alleged sexual abuse victims as well as people who claim to have witnessed said perversion, premiered last night and set social media alight with its jaw-dropping accusations.  And, while the debate that accompanied the hashtag #SurvivingRKelly saw a number of commenters disgusted by the evidence presented in the documentary, there were certainly a fair share of defenders of the ‘Bump N’ Grind’ star.

Their collective defenses obviously escalated from words to action as real time iTunes and Spotify charts both report INCREASED activity surrounding some of Kelly’s most popular titles.  Details below:

When Nicki Minaj impacted her scene in 2007 pure sales, (and not streaming) were the only way for an artist to impact the charts.

As a result, the performer has harvested a fanbase who would sooner purchase her material than stream it and- even in the face of a PR storms generated in her personal life– have given her her 102nd Billboard Hot 100 hit by doing just that.

Good new for the rapper and her affluent supporters below…

Lady Gaga‘s stellar performance in ‘A Star is Born’ will- should the performer get her way- see her walk away with an Oscar or two by the time next year’s ceremony draws to a close.

Only right then, with this in mind, that she gives the voting committee insight into the performance with appearances on platforms which give her ample room to lift the lid on her movie magic.

Her latest? An insightful conversation with ‘Hamilton’ mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Looking back on my career, I created all these characters for each of my albums, because I was not an actress. I created the star of my own movie, and that was it. When I have created characters on my own through my music, I have complete control. When you’re dealing with a script, costume department, props department, set design, lighting and producers, you have to collaborate with other people

Despite the singles that have led up to the announcement of his long-awaited sophomore project lacking the buzz of his inaugural solo single, ‘Pillow Talk,’ Malik’s had no shortage of attempts to gain momentum for the LP courtesy of buzz tracks ‘Too Much’ (featuring Timbaland), ‘No Candle No Light’ (featuring Nicki Minaj), and many more.

The Michael Jackson brand has proven to be a billion dollar machine in the near-decade since his death.

A series of savvy moves by his Estate have seen the King Of Pop moonwalk into the new generation and amass huge sums in the process.

Indeed, there have Circus Soleil shows, TV projects, exhibitions, and posthumous albums.

The latter, however, has been a little touch and go. 2014’s ‘Xscape’ was well-received, yet 2010’s ‘Michael’ remains a bone of contention with many fans. So much so that a sect filed a class action suit alleging that vocals had been doctored and, in instances, totally fabricated. A claim that has been denied by the Estate.

Yet, as the success of ‘Don’t Matter To Me’Drake‘s “collaboration” with MJ on his ‘Scorpion’ album – proved, there remains a healthy appetite for unheard material from the late, great megastar.

And it appears the hunger for new music will be fed – just in a different manner.
