After a lengthy spell on the bench, August Alsina sent fans into a state of shock when he unexpectedly announced ‘StateofEmergency’ – his official third album.

Released June 26 (just a week after being announced), the LP came as his first studio effort in nearly 5 years and first off the Def Jam imprint (after a highly publicized fall out with the label).  Packed with a whopping 27 songs, ‘StateofEmergency’ was preceded by the release of housed cuts ‘Rounds,’ ‘NOLA,’ and ‘Sincerely’ and boasts names like Yo Gotti, Tink, Lil Wayne, and Juicy J on its list of features.

Yet, despite immediately shooting to #1 on iTunes R&B charts (where it sits at writing), the minimal warning ahead of the set’s unveiling has arguably worked to its detriment if industry analyst predictions are to be believed.

Last week (as we reported here), Beyoncé sprang a surprise on fans when she unleashed new song ‘Black Parade.’

Wasting no time zooming to the top of real-time sales tallies (where it remained for days after its premiere), the Derek Dixie-produced bop came as a musical celebration of Juneteenth – the holiday designated to honor the end of slavery.

Now, her beloved fans – affectionately called the #Beyhive – have even more reason to celebrate as the updated Billboard Hot 100 reveals the tune has made a promising start.  Debuting at #37, the entry not only marks Bey’s 40th trip to that region of the chart since the start of her solo career in 2002 but also her 65th solo Hot 100 entry overall.

6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj kicked off the week with news their latest duet, ‘TROLLZ,’ had been colored into the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100.

While Minaj was no stranger to the win as she just celebrated her inaugural #1 last month (click here to read more), the trip to the chart’s summit came as a first for her co-star – a victory he used to taunt fellow rappers Future, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, and more as they could not boast the same (click here to read more).

But, while ‘TROLLZ’ may own the history-making feat of opening with 2020’s biggest first week sales yet, it is projected to soon be entering in history books for another reason: the biggest drop from #1 ever.

As if earning a #1 hit on the R&B charts with his Ella Mai-assisted ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ wasn’t enough, R&B veteran Usher also recently saw his name printed atop iTunes R&B tallies for his Tyga-assisted song, ‘California’ (click here to listen).

The warm response to his lengthy absence from the music scene has apparently encouraged the 8x GRAMMY winner to unveil even more new music as evidenced by the recently released, ‘I Cry.’

An emotional cut seemingly inspired by the ongoing racial unrest in America, Ush croons on the track:

“I cry / For the sons without fathers / And the pain that their mothers / Hold deep inside / And I’ll fight / For the future we’re making / We can change if we face it / ‘Cause these tears won’t dry / So I cry…”

After seeing content from their highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘City on Lock,’ unlocked and leaked on the Web (as we reported here), City Girls rushed to release the Quality Control set to offset the damage.

Released with no warning on June 20, the 15-song set – which follows their 2018 breakthrough debut album ‘Girl Code’ – features guest appearances from the likes of Doja Cat, Yo Gotti, Lil Baby, and more and boasts beats from some of the most promising rising producers on the Atlanta scene.

Yet, despite shooting to the top 10 of iTunes a day after its surprise unveiling, the project quickly fell out of the real-time sales tally’s top 40.  Even after releasing a hilarious visual to assist the LP’s lead single, ‘Jobs’ (click here to watch), buzz around the effort seemed to fade as quickly as it had risen.

Now, industry analysts have revealed their official sales projection for ‘City on Lock.’  Going to chart battle with only 6 days counted toward its inaugural tracking week, look inside to see how many units the album is set to shift over the time period:

June 12 brought with it the highly anticipated release of Chloe x Halle‘s sophomore album, ‘Ungodly Hour.’

Powered to chart competition by its bopping lead singles, ‘Do It’ (their highest charting song to date) and ‘Forgive Me,’ the sister set not only upped the ante on the visual front with increased sex appeal and choreography to boot but also delivered their most radio-friendly offerings yet.

Amplifying awareness of the LP’s arrival with an aggressive promo campaign that saw them touch down on television, Web, print, and more (as we reported here), the campaigning seemed to be doing the trick as ‘Ungodly Hour’ shot straight to the top of real-time sales tallies.

Now, with the inaugural tracking week behind them, Chloe x Halle can celebrate earning their best first week sales to date.

Despite industry analyst prediction ‘TROLLZ’ – the newest duet from 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj – will power its way to a #2 debut on next week’s Hot 100, the duo are pulling out all the stops to push it to the chart’s summit.

In addition to selling the single for $.69 and offering to pay fans to help promote it (click here to read more), now Minaj is keeping conversation around ‘TROLLZ’ going with the reveal of an alternate version.

Taking to Twitter Tuesday (June 16), the GRAMMY nominee explained the official version was actually her 11th take whereas the alternate has a different verse and even changes the beat.

“The official #Trollz verse was version 11. This was version 1,” said Nicki of the ‘TROLLZ’ alternate. “Verse changes and beat changes… but now u guys get a glimpse of where my verse begins vs. how it ends up once my creative process is complete.”
