With his run atop the Hot 100 abruptly interrupted by Travis Scott & Kid Cudi‘s hit, ‘The Scotts’ (as we reported here), The Weeknd is looking to push his latest chart-topper, ‘Blinding Lights,’ in reverse to #1 again.
To do so, the GRAMMY winner (born Abel Tesfaye) unleashed the song’s remix video.
Featuring and edited by electronica band Chromatics, the clip doesn’t stray from Tesfaye’s nightlife loving, trouble-seeking persona this era – a theme present in every video lifted in support of his latest album, ‘After Hours.’

As we reported here, The Weeknd‘s recently released duo of singles – ‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’ – were out of the box successes.
Zooming to the top of real-time iTunes sales and Spotify streaming charts, the songs respectively dominated competition on the tallies ahead of the release of their accompanying visuals. The former saw that dominance cemented courtesy of a boost from its Anton Tammi-directed music video and mind-bending live performance last week on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ (click here to read).
Now, thanks to the aforementioned (alongside a warm reception from radio), the Metro Boomin-produced track has become the singer’s fourth Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper. Details inside:
The Weeknd may be well on the way to another chart-topper if the commercial response to his latest duo of singles, ‘Blinding Lights’ and ‘Heartless,’ is anything to judge by.
As we reported here, the Grammy-winner (born Abel Tesfaye) unleashed the tracks with little warning last week. Immediately greeted with acclaim from his devoted fans, the tunes quickly shot to the top of real time sales and streaming charts – positions they have maintained well into this week.
Following the release of an accompanying music video for ‘Heartless’ and the Mercedes Benz ad campaign featuring ‘Blinding Lights’ as its official theme, it’s pretty safe to say Tesfaye’s en route to kicking off one hell of an era.

Festival fans rejoice!
Urban music’s leading crooners – The Weeknd and Bruno Mars – dominated much of last year’s Billboard charts with offerings from their respective albums, ‘Starboy’ and ’24K Magic.’ Now, they intend to bring that command to the 2018 Lollapalooza stage.
The four-day festival, which takes place August 2-5 in Chicago, saw its official lineup unveiled today and (to the surprise of no one) it does not disappoint! In addition to Weeknd & Mars – billed as the fest’s headlining acts – look inside to see who’ll join them rock Chitown this summer:
The fallout from H&M‘s ill-advised ad continues.
As reported, the clothing giant featured a black child model on their website sporting a hoody with the words “coolest monkey in the jungle.”
The company have removed the image and issued an apology, but it hasn’t stopped the backlash from building.
And one of those speaking up and out is singer The Weeknd.

With his newly released album ‘Jungle Rules’ gunning for a top 5 debut on the Billboard 200, French Montana is looking to amp up the already brimming buzz around the project by releasing yet another visual for one of its hottest tracks.
‘A Lie,’ featuring chart-topper The Weeknd and Max B, gets the video treatment thanks to direction from Spiff TV and Montana himself. Set in New York, the clip is a star-studded affair that sees cameos from the likes of A$AP Rocky, Juelz Santana, and more.

In addition to earning its highest ratings in years, the 2017 Grammys also helped spur some impressive sales and streaming boosts for its performers – most notably Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars.
While Sheeran, who was last week’s Hot 100 leader, maintains his hold on the top spot, he’s challenged by Perry whose latest number – ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ – made an impressive #4 debut to the tune of 108,000 downloads and handsome streaming figures.
As far as Mars and Weeknd are concerned, Billboard reports:
Following his Grammys performance of “That’s What I Like,” along with his Prince tribute, Mars blasts 37-7 on the Hot 100, earning his 14th top 10.
Fellow Grammys performer The Weeknd vaults 16-9 on the Hot 100 with “I Feel It Coming,” featuring Daft Punk, after the acts performed the song, as well as prior single “Starboy,” at music’s biggest night. The song is The Weeknd’s sixth Hot 100 top 10 and Daft Punk’s third (and second as featured on a hit by The Weeknd, following the No. 1 “Starboy”).

The Weeknd celebrates his 27th birthday by gifting fans with a new video for ‘Reminder,’ the latest single from his hotly selling LP ‘Starboy.’
A star-studded affair, featuring appearances from Drake, NAV, YG, A$AP Rocky, Bryson Tiller, Travis Scott, French Montana, and more, the visual’s debut comes just days after The Weeknd gave fans a reminder of his talents via live performance of ‘I Feel It Coming’ at the Grammys last Sunday with a little help from Daft Punk.
Now, you’re invited to get acquainted with his newest release inside:
Thanks to a $.69 “holiday sale” on iTunes, ‘Earned It’ singer The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) has finally earned his third #1 single on the Hot 100.
14 weeks after its debut (and after a lengthy 8-week run at #2 behind rap duo Rae Sremmurd‘s smash single ‘Black Beatles’), ‘Starboy’ – the title track to Tesfaye’s third album (which hit #1 on the Billboard 200) – ascended to the tally’s perch on the wings of strong digital downloads and streaming performance. Billboard reports:
[‘Starboy’ logged] the chart’s greatest week-over-week sales gain (up 28,000), surging by 49 percent to 86,000 downloads sold in the week ending Dec. 22. “Starboy” tops the Hot 100 after eight nonconsecutive weeks at No. 2, tying for the most weeks spent at No. 2 before leading the list. It matches Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry,” which ruled at last on the Jan. 23, 2016, chart, and OutKast‘s “The Way You Move,” featuring Sleepy Brown (Feb. 14, 2004).”
Congratz are certainly in order for Weeknd and his ‘Starboy’ co-stars Daft Punk. The achievement marks the group’s first run at #1 in the U.S.
Tuck in below to see who else filled out this week’s refreshed Billboard Hot 100:
If you thought the 350-400k The Weeknd‘s new album, ‘Starboy’ was set to top the Billboard 200 with next week was something to gawk at you’ll be even more impressed by his Spotify streaming figures.
That’s right, the ‘Earned It’ crooner has earned a new spot in digital history books as he’s dethroned pop prince/fellow Canadian crooner Justin Bieber‘s one-day streaming record. To put this into context, Bieber’s latest album, ‘Purpose,’ was streamed over 36 million times from November 13 to November 14th, 2015.
The anticipation for ‘Starboy’ has exceeded that:
