Looks like ‘Lucky Star’ singer Madonna‘s 2012 is already starting off on the right note. Despite mixed reviews for her directorial effort ‘W.E.’, Madge’s musical contribution to the film, ‘Masterpiece’, nabbed ‘Best Original Song’ at tonight’s Golden Globe ceremony (but the film later lost ‘Best Original Score’). Going head to head with fellow music monarch Mary J. Blige, for ‘The Living Proof’ from ‘The Help’, the win marks Madonna’s second Golden Globe  – the first being for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical’ in the 1996 musical ‘Evita’.

Reportedly putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming album ‘MDNA’, this victory certainly highlights a week that has seen her Madgesty in headlines for less flattering circumstances (see: digs at Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson).  Fans of the diva will next see her on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno continuing her promo rounds for the movie and upcoming album.

Until then get into this video of her acceptance speech and red carpet pics:

Ledisi may have ended her 12-time GRAMMY losing streak in March when she took home her first golden gramophone for work found aboard her latest studio album, 2020’s ‘Wild Card,’ but the legendary diva’s barely had time to soak in the win.

Just a month later, she released her first live album – the critically acclaimed ‘Live at the Troubadour’ – amid reports she was already hard-at-work bringing the life story of Queen of Gospel Mahalia Jackson to screens via a recently announced biopic.

As fans readied themselves for that, it was revealed Leddy was also cooking up a tribute to another music icon: Nina Simone.

Thanks to her blockbuster 2022 album, ‘SOS,’ R&B singer-songwriter SZA entered the 2024 GRAMMYs as the night’s most-nominated act (9).

Rightfully so, as the project had not only birthed multiple Billboard Hot 100 dominating hits (‘Kill Bill,’ ‘Snooze,’ and more) but was easily one of the most critically acclaimed albums of its genre in years.

For its critical and commercial successes, many of her dedicated fans figured the project would be a shoo-in for the award show’s most prestigious honor.

Much to their surprise and chagrin, the LP and its content did not capture one of the Big 3 categories it was nominated in.
