After joining Jessie J to fly the flag for British music on US soil in 2012, 2015 will see Rita Ora extend her reach to the world of cinema, doing so with the film adaptation of E. L. James ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

Now, as she looks forward to the project’s February 13th release date, the ‘Black Widow’ singer has weighed in on feminism and the role of women in the entertainment industry.

Will you agree with what she has to say?

Find out below…

Speaking to ‘The Mirror‘, Ora shared:

I think people take the word feminist really seriously and I think people are scared to use that word. In this industry, all the heads of labels are men, but every artist has to prove themselves, regardless of their sex. I have always been very vocal about the women sticking together. Without pulling the whole female card, I think it has always been harder for females in all respects. Whenever we have an opinion it always seems to be taken out of proportion. As a woman in this industry, it has always been a bit about proving yourself.

Is Lana Del Rey unhappy with her latest album ‘Ultraviolence‘?

If her recent conversation with ‘Grazia’ is anything to go by, she is, blaming herself not listening to “hunches” she had when writing a number of its songs?

Cop a gander of Tinashe!

The R&B newcomer heated up the Summer months with the blazing hot ‘2 On’ and closes out the year with a classy cool shoot for Interview magazine.

Striking, the feature comes as quite the coup for the 21-year-old’s campaign for debut album ‘Aquarius’.

STYLE OF MUSIC: It’s rooted in a place of R&B, but I like to avoid categories because I want to be able to evolve as an artist and for people not to expect the same thing from me all the time. I suppose it’s some grey area in R&B land.

AQUARIUS: This year has been a crazy year for me and my life has totally changed. People look at me differently. I can’t really go places anymore without getting noticed. I’m playing shows, multiple times a week. I’m touring. I’m going overseas. It’s a big difference. It’s awesome.

THE NICEST PERSON I’VE WORKED WITH: One of them is Boi-1da from Toronto. He’s really nice, really great guy. Another one is Stuart Matthewman of Sade. He had a lot of interesting stories to share. He told me about touring the world with the group Sade and performing in Rio.

WRITER’S BLOCK: Do I get writer’s block? Absolutely. That’s the creative process. It’s a process; you never know what’s going to happen. There’s no step-by-step way to write a song. I’m really very selective about who I play my music to in the early stages. I’m a huge perfectionist. I don’t like people to make judgments before it’s at its full potential, so I’m pretty secretive. I don’t even let my family hear it.

I’VE MADE IT MOMENT: There are small moments, but I always have really high expectations so I continue to push for the next level. I think one of the best moments this year was when I turned on my local radio station and I heard my song and then I turned it to the next local station I listen to and I heard my song. Then I turned to a third local station I listen to and I heard my song. That was really crazy.

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN ASK FOR… As an artist is that people enjoy the music.

SWITCHING MEDIUMS: I have videos of me singing songs at age one, age two. I think music was always my biggest passion; I was just looking for when I could pursue that full time. I took a step back, when I was about 16, from acting to focus on music. I wanted people to know I was taking it really seriously and to think of me as a music artist first and foremost.

CONFIDENCE: Because everybody always encouraged me to sing I assumed that I wasn’t bad at it. It felt like it was obvious what I was going to pursue. I thought I was good for as long as I can remember.

ENTRY INTO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY: My dad was a theater actor so he had an agent and he brought me into his agency when I was maybe four years old. That was how I started. I started modeling and it progressed from there. My parents always took me to my auditions and all the places I needed to go to—they drove me around everywhere. They’re extremely supportive, my biggest fans, so I’m really thankful for that.

FIRST FILM: I was in my first movie when I was five. I just loved to entertain and put on a show. I really fell in love with acting at an early age. I always had a great time on set. I knew I was doing something professional, I think. It taught me about professionalism at a really early age and how to conduct myself in the entertainment industry and those types of environments.

Months before the release of her new studio album, Lady GaGa has questioned the intentions of performers who don’t pen their own material this year, questioning the motivation behind their decision to pursue a career in music.

“He’s getting a tattoo, yeah he’s getting ink done”

These may be the words to a once popular Offspring song, but they’ve also become a routine reality for rapper Lil Wayne.

This month was supposed to see the Hip-Hop titan release his long awaited LP ‘Tha Carter V’. However, amidst public label drama, the Young Money / Cash Money star has instead released pics of his latest ink job.

Like many, we’re surprised the heavily tatted MC actually had any more space for more work. Yet nonetheless, here are the newest.

“Time goes by… so slowly”
While this week has found Queen Of Pop Madonna forced to share details about her much anticipated 13th album ‘Rebel Heart’, From The Vault journeys back to her most sonically sound effort in recent years. This week’s pick is the glorious ‘Hung Up’.
Released almost a decade ago, ‘Hung Up’ was the very first offering of the artist’s disco-heavy tenth album, the delicious ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’. Helmed by British producer Stuart Price and the diva herself, it is famously built on a sample of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ by legendary Swedish group ABBA.
Released in a ‘We Belong Together’ reality, the song still managed to achieve major success on a global scale peaking at #1 in 41 countries including the UK, France, Canada and Australia – it reached #7 in the US – and has sold over 9 millions unit since its release.
Johan Renck was in charge of directing the track’s visual. Featuring many dancers – including several of the krumpers seen in David LaChapelle’s documentary ‘Rize’ as well some of her own documentary ‘I’m Going To Tell You a Secret’ – the video succeeds in relaying a raw street aura while keeping up with the glam of the late 70s/early 80s which were explored during that album campaign. From the fashion and the lighting, to the beauty shots and choreography, all comes together and explodes into a euphoric final scene where Madge is seen dancing up a storm.
Perhaps it’s us, but from where we’re standing ‘Confessions’ was the last real “Madonna” album. Indeed, much of what came after has reeked of desperation and tackiness (see: ‘MDNA’, shuffling with LMFAO at the Superbowl, reductive-gate). We’re all for exploring different sounds and textures, and clearly that’s what M-Dolla is famous for; still, we wish she would maintain some sort of regality in her music. In wanting to cater to the younger generation, it feels like the artist is continuously losing the very elements that made her the Queen Of Pop in the first place. So much to the point where she is making the same music the very artists she gave birth to are churning out —- ironically with less tasty results.
Here’s hoping the remaining 13 tracks of ‘Rebel Heart’ give back to us that very artist who has been Pop’s definitive blueprint.

“Maybe I should’ve been born white then all of my music would go straight to mainstream…”
“I look better, produce better, write better, and perform better than damn near everybody and this is the thanks I get?”

The quotes above are just two of many fiery statements lifted from Grammy-nominated R&B singer Tank‘s Instagram today (December 19).

Upon learning that a music video would not be financed for his latest single ‘Stronger,’ the multi-talented singer/songwriter lent a lengthy speech to the social media network to break down his frustration with his record label, lack of support of R&B from fans, and status of the genre in the music industry overall.

Despite landing top 5 placement on the Billboard 200 with one of the biggest R&B records of 2013 (‘Three Kingz’ by TGT), Tank has not been able to match that success by his lonesome.  The feat not only fueled his rant, but also saw him allude to never making another “true R&B record” again.

As artists like Beyonce, Chris Brown, Jhene Aiko, August Alsina, Trey Songz, K. Michelle, D’Angelo, and more are finding real success with “real R&B” records, do you feel Tank is wrong in his assessment?

spears-women's health-thatgrapejuice

With the abysmal ‘Britney Jean’ behind her and a hot Vegas residency at the top of her ‘things to do list,’ ‘Work B*tch’ beauty Britney Spears has been doing just that for most of the year.  A feat keeping her out of headlines and off of charts, the pop princess’s recent reemergence afront ‘Women’s Health’ magazine immediately sent fans in to suspect Spears’s 2015 will be quite the opposite of the year prior.

Their suspicions confirmed when ‘Work’ rapstress Iggy Azalea took to radio to announce she and Spears had recorded a song set to be the Grammy winner’s lead single from her yet-titled new album, the good news came just in time and as a welcomed distraction for the #BritneyArmy who’d spend their week defending their leader from claims of airbrushing and digital alteration on her most recent magazine outing.

Haven’t we heard this before?
