In unprecedented fashion, the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards – due to an uptick in the global health crisis and controversy around committee voter representation – honored the year’s best and brightest in film and television via an untelevised ceremony Sunday (January 9).

Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles with no red carpet, no audience, and no nominees present at the time the categorical winners were announced, the show unveiled the trophy recipients virtually.

With the curtains now closed, tuck in below to find out who walked away with the coveted trophies from the night’s showing.

Amid criticism for the lack of diversity among its voting committee and winners, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the organization responsible for the annual Golden Globes – looked to shed the negative press by awarding one of its most varied slew of winners yet aboard its 79th annual ceremony Sunday (January 9).

Ahead of historic victories from the likes of Will Smith, ‘Pose’ star MJ Rodriguez, and more (as we reported here), fans of music megastar Beyoncé were hoping the Globes would kick off its trot down diversity lane by awarding the Best Original Song trophy to her tune, ‘Be Alive’ (found aboard the ‘King Richard’ soundtrack).

Not long into the untelevised show’s run, the dreams of ‘Be Alive’ winning were deadened.

From ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ to ‘Ali,’ ‘Gemini Man,’ and many more, Will Smith has brought no shortage of groundbreaking and critically acclaimed roles to life over his tenured, 3-decade career.

Yet, despite being one of the most lauded actors of his time, the 53-year-old’s trophy case had been unforgivably devoid of the industry’s top acting honors – Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

Sunday (January 9), the latter opted to change that.

Today’s From The Vault pick is the classic that keeps on giving.

Spotlighted this week is 1998´s ‘They Don’t Know’ by R&B crooner Jon B.

Helmed by Tim & Bob, the track was written by the duo alongside Jon for his second studio album ‘Cool Relax.’

‘Thet Don’t Know’ was released as the project’s third single and went on to become the artist’s biggest hit to date – peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop tally.

The track’s music video was directed by Christopher Erskin and follows Jon B as he rescues a damsel in distress…after getting a shape up at the barbershop, of course.

In signature, late 90´s fashion, Motorola cellphones, oversized clothes, and mob stories all made appearances in the visual.

Though ‘Know’ made its first impression over 20 years ago, the release is once again getting its flowers afresh after being sampled on Gunna and Chlöe’s newly unwrapped jam ‘You & Me’.

With Chris Brown, Aaliyah, Chingy, and many others turning to this gem to create new tunes of their own, it is clearly regarded by many as a bonafide classic and will no doubt continue to be celebrated for decades to come.
