From Queen of Pop Madonna to Dionne Warwick, Beyonce, Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and many more, Nicki Minaj is no stranger naming her industry peers as fans.

That consistency may translate to praise and adoration from her dedicated fan base, affectionately called #Azaleans, but it hasn’t always morphed into commercial acclaim – a truth Azalea took to Twitter over the weekend to suggest isn’t just happenstance.

Since unveiling the official 2020 nominations Tuesday (September 22), the Billboard Music Awards have been under fire for snubbing what many believe are the year’s biggest acts.

The criticism comes as the awards ceremony – which was initially scheduled for April – is set to air October 14 yet honor music acts based on the original chart period of award eligibility (March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020).

Despite announcing the caveat, the organizers are still battling backlash from some of music’s most active fan bases – namely those of Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat.

Since March 15, 2020, The Weeknd‘s megahit, ‘Blinding Lights,’ has managed to shine in the top 5 of the Hot 100 – a total of 28 weeks.

Eventually hitting #1 and staying there for four weeks total (his fifth chart-topper), the Max Martin-produced cut helped drive its parent album, ‘After Hours,’ to some of the biggest sales of the year.

Already a vehicle to Hot 100 history books on the Radio chart (as we reported here), the enduring hit has dimmed the reign of Ed Sheeran‘s monster smash ‘Shape of You’ (2017) to become the longest-running top 5 hit in history.
