The show must go on!

In a bid to celebrate and uplift, the BET Awards 2020 are set to broadcast virtually on Sunday June 28th.

As always, all eyes are on who’ll be up for nominations at Black entertainment’s biggest calendar night. A ceremony that’s even more notable this year, given that it’s the show’s 20th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the network.

Well, wonder no more. For, the nominees list has been revealed.

Much like the charts, Drake leads the pack with a whopping six nominations.

Following closely are 2020 chart-toppers Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch – who’ve both nabbed five a piece.

Elsewhere, the likes of Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Cardi B are amongst the stars who also scooped notable noms at show – which will air simultaneously across BET, MTV, VH1 and for the first time CBS.

Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj‘s reboot of the former’s smash hit single ‘Say So’ is expected to rock a number of charts in the coming days thanks to sales and streams delivered by their enthusiastic fan bases.

Also set to soar? Megan Thee Stallion’s Beyoncé-backed ‘Savage’ remix. Now, days after a rumour claiming she and the ‘Story of Beauty’ singer used their lyrics in both tracks to slam the other’s appearance, Minaj has put an end to the nonsense.

With his hit, ‘Toosie Slide,’ Canadian rapper Drake became the second artist in history to debut a single atop the Hot 100 three times over his career – an accomplishment only ‘Queen of Billboard’ Mariah Carey could boast at the time.  Later, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande were able to as well (click here to read more).

Granted, the feat of nabbing multiple openings at the tally’s summit is ultra rare, but many will be surprised to know – even in the current era of streaming – how infrequently any act has premiered a song at the hitlist’s peak position at any point in his or her career. In fact, among the 1,120 #1 hits in Hot 100 history (which dates to Aug. 4, 1958), only 51 of them debuted at the top.

To celebrate Drizzy’s addition to the growing index, That Grape Juice thought it a great time time to salute the hitmakers who broke the ground before and after him.
