January 22, 2010 at 7:58 pm
Alicia’s performance may not have been her best vocally, but you know as soon as the song ended and they cut, she was going to cry.
Jennifer Hudson and Christina turned it out wonderfully. Stevie is awesome as usual, and John Legend was amazing.
Jay, Bono, and Rihanna’s song was actually pretty good. There were moments where Rihanna overpowered Bono’s voice, but it wasn’t bad.
Wyclef ended it quite appropriately.
This may beat out any awards show in 2010 when it comes to a complete show in performances.

Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Jennifer H., Stevie Wonder, Christina did good. Mary J made me want to go to church and Beyonce and Jennifer worked… Guess what? Jay Z and Bono and a lot of others know Rihanna cant sing why you ask? because of her part they gave her in that song it was basically a Jay song with Rihanna and Bono doing some kind of chorus, but overall she still gets no respect…. But Mary J worked that song. It was a nice show and they saved the worst for last and that was that mess Jay did with Bono and Rihanna and the two guys before Wyclef other than that it was worth my two hours.

Bono proved that Rihanna dont know nothing about tunes, keys, notes or lyrics if not for him she would’ve kept that her true voice that came at the end all through the performance. A singer enhances a song, they work it you know something like Mary J, Jennifer, Beyonce and Christina a lot more but not that stuff Rihanna did which was keep eye contact with a artist that knows she cant sing that was funny, but overall the show was great and no one stands alone it all worked for good even the bad singers at the end….

I agree it wasn’t Alicia’s best but the song was appropriate and her performance was heartfelt and it set the tone for the night to just give it your all. I thought it was someone elses song at first but then realised it is from As I Am it was actually an interlude called Prelude To A Kiss, she just stretched it out. Anyway by far, hands down one of the best was Jennifer Hudson, I went back and watched it again as soon as she finished. That girl just gives you the chills when she sings. I really need her second album to just be classic and timeless. I also was pleasantly surprised at the Jay, Rhianna, and Bono song it actually sounded nice and I can see it doing well on itunes. Wyclef did his thing as well, I am glad he ended on a high note.

@why still in the business, its obvious your reaching and trying to say bono is the reason for rihanna sounding good. You just can’t admit it huh? Rihanna brought it tonight, and you just can’t handle it. The eye contact thing was bono’s doing, he wanted to make eye contact with ri, he approached her first with it, and she reciprocated. Its funny you guys weren’t saying she can’t sing back in her GGGb days, but all of a sudden rihanna can’t sing. Please people like Bono, wouldn’t work with Ri if he thought she wasn’t good enough. he wanted her there, because he wanted a certain sound on the record and he got it. he could have chosen anyone else, but he chose ri ri. So get over it.

Everyone sounded and looked as if they belonged on the stage except Jay Z and Rihanna.Jay -Z is just too old to be a rapper and Rihanna needs to stay far away from a mic and a stage. As others said “Rihanna ” needed to be carried and that is what I dislike about her the most, she ‘s a weak female that always need “help”,she was simply horrendous as usual.
The clothes she wore were all wrong but then again, gimmicks can’t stray away from the formula.I’m just so happy that I have more substance to know music and not be fooled by gimmicks……

beyonce was pitch perfect but she always finds a way to shamelessly self-promote. so turned off. remember, this is the same woman who sang for a terrorist’s family. it’s not one thing with her, it’s a sum of all the parts.i do sincerely hope all of these celebrities asking us to donate or buy their songs for charity are doing the same. i didn’t make $122 million last year, but i donated and got my job to match. thank you mjb.. .simply amazing. god bless the people of haiti. ave maria.

For all of you Rihanna fans, know that you are not on a pro- site for Rihanna so no matter how much you scream and pout, everyone on this site will not suck up to Rihanna nor will we lie about her”alleged talents,so you may want to get over that already.
I think the cause is great for our people in Haiti,I’d already given to Save The Children-Haiti and I plan on giving continuously to IBW21(Ron Daniels).I learn of this NGO from my Grand Pop who has went to Haiti i several times,so I know this money goes directly to people that know how to use the money to help people in places where The Red Cross won’t go…….

For all of you Rihanna fans, know that you are not on a pro- site for Rihanna so no matter how much you scream and pout, everyone on this site will not suck up to Rihanna nor will we lie about her”alleged talents,so you may want to get over that already.
I think the cause is great for our people in Haiti,I’d already given to Save The Children-Haiti and I plan on giving continuously to IBW21(Ron Daniels).I learn of this NGO from my Grand Pop who has went to Haiti several times,so I know this money goes directly to people that know how to use the money to help people in places where The Red Cross won’t go…….

I dont get how most of ya’ll are saying bey is promoting a song that has BEEN released….she’s had her tyme and I honestly do not feel she’s trying to “promote” this song again because it has already made it in charts and sales. Remember that the sales it makes now wlll not be going to her, but to HAITI…Please remember this is for a cause. I loved all the performances because all the performers took time out to come forward and get others to help, which is the main point. Let’s get off fashion and how people sounded because this is not What Not to Wear or American Idol. Let’s not get on those who actually took time to do something beneficial. If you were on that stage would you have sounded or looked half as good? Would it have mattered if it was for a good cause? Let’s get it together ya’ll! Go buy the album and help rebuild Haiti…

Beyonce sang “Halo” because she is the only one who has a song out that could be performed. Obviously if HALO didnt exist, beyonce would probably perform someone elses song, but why perform someone elses song when you have an empowering song of your own. Some of you make no sense. You just HATE on her, and you’ll find any excuse to do so. IF your going to insult her and her music, make sure you say something that is meaningful not some dumb shit.

It’s orginally from Leonard cohen and then made famous Gain by thr beautiful cover from Jeff BUckley!ALex just covered it like whoever won x factor would have -completely ruining it! JT sang thr song the way it ws supposed to be sung! Good job!

The arrangement was XF-fied. I thought Alex sung it well but obviously it pails in comparison to other versions. I prefer the subtle approach. Justin’s version was gorgeous and emotional.
B shouldn’t have sung that song.. if only for the lyrics as they are quite inappropiate.
Eg: ‘Remember the walls we built, well baby their tumbling down’. They just had an earthquake. She sounded good tho.
Well done to everyone who took part.

Best performances (In no particular order) were Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake & Matt Morris, John Legend & Jennifer Hudson.
Obviously everyone else was good. Beyonce & Mary J also stand out.
I was plesently suprised with the Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono, Edge collaboration.
I get that people don’t like some artists (not naming names) but when they are attempting to use there celebrity status to do some good, does it really matter. Does it matter that some have weaker voices than others, does it matter that they may not always be on key, does it matter that you don’t like them? What SHOULD matter is that they are doing something GOOD with their fame. So I personally feel that for JUST THIS ONCE, people should lay off bitching, making underhand, sly comments about certain performers and just concentrate on what the whole benefit was about.
Also – of the people who are bitching etc…if you feel certain things were SO bad…. why not donate to counteract what you feel was bad. How many of you have actually donated some money, time or other effort for the HELP FOR HAITI NOW? If not, why not?

That song would’ve sold regardless of Rihanna are not but it was funny that Bono had to coach her on national TV on how to sing the song.. That was priceless and I know everyone saw it she is just lucky, not talented at all. Right place at the right time and Jay needs to stop carrying Rihanna cause she was not the only artist he worked with she may have gotten lucky but on the talent tip she is the least one..

First off, EVERYONE was amazing.. this truly was a special and uplifting night filled with stellar performances from each and every individual who came out to lend their talents. I particularly enjoyed the Christina, Beyonce, JHud, JT, and Bono Jay & Rihanna performances. For anyone going on to bash rihanna by the way calling her a flop or goat, etc… this woman is truly talented and she was selected by some of the biggest names in the game to be on a song.. they could have easily gotten ANYONE they wanted for this track.. but they chose her.. she took time off from being “hard” and promoting her platinum album to do this for the people of haiti. She obviously is a big enough name and respected enough in the industry to headline this event so I ask.. is that a flop? I define the word flop as completely failing.. i don’t find someone as a flop when they have had the most top ten singles of the decade. Voice may not be a whitney houston.. but most certainly she is not a “flop” do your research please. Enough of that.. I again would like to say this was an awesome night and i did my part to donate and I hope that the rest of you all did the same.

WHY do people(haters) keep saying Bono carried Rihanna? he never did you haters just can’t accept the fact that rihanna was actually singing very well on her own, it drives you guys crazy because all the time you guys were saying she doesn’t have the best vocals, which I could agree on , they aren’t great but I still love her voice, her voice surprised me because through the performance I though that her voice sounded amazingly great.. no pitchy anywhere. And Bono is a great performer too I love him but the only reason for him to keep looking at rihanna and her looking back was to go along with the song, it’s called stranded so the fact that they were looking back at each other is the were trying to show everyone that no matter who you are or what you been through you are just the same. ALL in ALL the performance was great.

*BEFORE ANYONE READS THIS, I COMMEND ALL ARTISTS FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT TO GIVE BACK TO HAITI IN ANY WAY THEY COULD. MY POST IS ONLY AN OPINION OF THE PERFORMANCES AND DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM MY HEARTFELT EMOTIONS FOR THE HOPE OF HAITI!
NOW……..
YOU RIHANNA STANS ARE F’IN DELUSIONAL IF YOU THINK THE SONG “STRANDED” IS #1 ON ITUNES BECAUSE OF RIHANNA! PLEASE GET HELP IF YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS! I MEAN THE SONG WAS WRITTEN BY BONO AND JAY-Z AND PRODUCED BY U-2. RIHANNA JUST SAID “EEEHHHH” AND TWO OTHER WORDS THE ENTIRE SONG, IN ADDITION, U-2 IS PROBABLY THE MOST POPULAR, FAMOUS, AND SUCCESSFUL MUSICAL GROUPS THAT EVER EXISTED, AND JAY-Z IS NO GIMMICK EITHER, SO I’M SURE HIS FANS (INCLUDING ME) ENJOY HIM EEING ON THE SONG AS WELL. THEREFORE, RIHANNA’S SMIDGEN OF A PART DID NOTHING SPECIAL NOR DID IT HAVE ANY AFFECT TO THE SONG AND SHE’S ONLY APART OF IT BECAUSE SHE’S JAY-Z’S PROTEGE’! I WILL SAY HER SCREECHING DURING THIS PERFORMANCE DOES SOUND BETTER THAN ANY OTHER PERFORMANCE I’VE SEEN FROM HER.
AND HOW IS BEYONCE’ DOING PROMOTION WHEN HER ALBUM IS OVER ONE YEAR OLD! HER ALBUM WAS STILL ON THE CHARTS BEFORE THIS PERFORMANCE, SO NO NEED TO PROMOTE SOMETHING THAT’S ALREADY A SUCCESS! DUH! HER ALBUM IS STILL SELLING AT 20,000-30,000 A WEEK WHILE SOME ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO SELL THAT MUCH A WEEK IN ONLY 2 MONTHS! IN ADDITION, SHE CHANGED THE WORDS THROUGHOUT THE SONG NOT JUST DURING THE CHORUS IF PEOPLE WEREN’T JUST TRYNA FIND SOMETHING TO BITCH ABOUT! [AND I AM NO BEYONCE STAN. I JUST KNOW TRUE ARTISTRY AND I JUST GIVE AN HONEST OPINION WHOEVER THE ARTISTS MAY BE BUT I DO LIKE HER FOR THE MOST PART] BUT I HONESTLY THINK PEOPLE [ARE] TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE IT WAS SO FLAWLESS! THEY CAN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HER TALENT OR HER VOCAL ABILITY SO YEAH I DO UNDERSTAND SOMEONE WORKING THEIR BRAIN EXTRA HARD TO SEARCH FOR PROBLEM! HA!
OKAY, SO MY FAVORITE PERFROMANCE OF THE NIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY, 100% JOHN LEGEND! IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SONG AND BEAUTIFULLY SUNG AS WELL! MY SECOND FAVORITE WAS A TIE BETWEEN BEYONCE AND JAY-Z WITH BONO (THE SONG IS WONDERFULLY PRODUCED AND ARRANGED AND JAY-Z IS A LYRICAL GENIUS). MY THIRD FAVORITE WAS CHRISTINA AGUILERA AND THE KID ROCK, SHERYL CROW, AND THE OTHER GUY’S PERFORMANCE (I THINK HIS NAME IS KEITH URBAN I’M JUST NOT FOR SURE)

YOU’VE ADMITTED THAT SHE SOUNDED GOOD SO YOU SAYING THAT SHE’S TRYING TO PROMOTE IS THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU COULD FIND WHICH IS SAD!
IF YOU WOULD READ MY POST SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY YOU WOULD KNOW THAT I SAID THE REASON THE SONG IS A SUCCES IS BECAUSE OF U2 AND JAY-Z! NOW SINCE YOU’RE SO OBSESSED WITH WIKIPEDIA YOU CAN GO CHECK IT AND SEE THAT THEY ARE BOTH IN THE LIST OF THE MOST RECORDS SOLD EVER, THEREFORE IF PEOPLE WOULD BY AN ALBUM OF THEIRS THEN OF COURSE THEY WOULD BUY A SONG! SO THAT’S THE REASON THE SONG IS #1 IDIOT! DANG!
AND TRUST ME I AM NOT UPSET BECAUSE SHE IS NOT SLAYING ANYONE THE ONLY THING SHE IS SLAYING IS MY EARS WHEN I HEAR HER VOICE AND SHE IS SLAYING YOU STANS’ BRAINS BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL DELUSIONAL!!!!!!!
THEY CHOSE HER BECAUSE SHE’S JAY-Z’S PROTEGE’ AND THEY ALSO CHOSE HER TO DO A SONG WITH TWO OTHER PEOPLE PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T WANT HER TO DESTROY “REDEMPTION SONG” ON NATIONAL TELEVISION ONCE AGAIN!
AND MAXWELL NOT CHARTING ON ITUNES BECAUSE OF HIS PERFORMANCE MEANS WHAT?
AND PLEASE QUIT THE “BOO” REFERENCES AND PLEASE STOP CONSTANTLY SAYING “HATING IS A DISEASE, YOU’RE INFECTED” CUZ IT’S GETTING REPETITIVE! BTW YOU’RE PROBABLY THE INFECTED ONE ANYWAY!

The genesis of the song came with Jay-Z collaborator Swizz Beatz sending simultaneous text messages to Jay-Z and Bono. They agreed to do it, and Bono wrote the hook for “Stranded” while on the phone with Beatz. The latter said, “The idea of the song is ‘We’re not gonna leave you stranded’ and that’s what the chorus is. So me and Bono started going back and forth with ideas, and he was like, ‘You know this word stranded keeps standing out to me’ and I asked him to sing it, and he put me on hold ’cause he’s recording the ideas on a Dictaphone — so he did it there and then on the phone. Bono and The Edge then did further writing work on it together.
The recording was done over diverse geographic locations and melded together, with The Edge helping out with extra production work. Beatz then added Rihanna into the effort, later saying “I knew that Jay would be able to tell a story, and that Bono would be able to sing and bring it home. The last component that I added was Rihanna, and she’s kinda like the angel that’s on the track, softening it up and giving it that caring feeling, because this hook is so powerful.] The final recording was produced by Beatz and Declan Gaffney.
In the song, Jay-Z narrates the tale, invoking questions of religion and government while urging action and resolve
When the sky falls and the earth quakes
We gonna put this back together
We won’t break
while Bono and Rihanna sing the vocal hook
See Rihanna Was chosen for a reason not because she have the best vocals because they could have easily pick beyonce or mary J.blige or jennifer hudson but they chose her because she has more international appeal them some of the other artist, we all know that she doesn’t have the strongest vocals of the other female singers but the specifically wanted rihanna for the song. she a co-write as well.

After Watching My Fav(4) Performances over again for the 2nd time i came up with this.
Bey, Justin, & Cristina were the Best vocally in their own way. Id Say that Vocally Cristina(Though Ive never took a real liking to her Voice B4) Was Thea Best, Cuz While Bey was Great I only Found the very 1st part & the very last Quarter of her performance to be Striking but Xtina was Striking all the way through, Very Powerfull, You can tell she must have taken a long break from Both Talking & Singing for that performance.lol
I thought Jay did a really good job with Stranded- When you really listen Jay actually over powers both bona & Rih but it was just not vocally but Through Lyrics. & Justins callabo was also great, he brought lyfe to such a mellow song..

actually Rihanna did co-write it I just checked…oops, but nonetheless she was chosen, but we have to keep everything positive I mean we are all entitled to our opinions ,it’s are right but there in no need to turn something so positive with the effects of inspiring others to help Haiti and Bring Unity and we all just turned it negative, all of us. we sometimes have to stop and think about what we are going to say and realize no matter who was better or who was bad at the end of the day it was for a good cause and the people in Haiti are getting the help they truly deserve, we need to stop turning everything into a competition but every singer in the game right are very successful

Sorry boo!
I did listen to the HALO SONG and it made no sense. Haiti doesnt fit for that song PERIOD.
She only changed Baby to Haiti……Girl sit down!
iM SORRY booboo, Jayz is more of an AMERICAN ARTIST than international. Rihanna and u2 bring the international fans. Jay zs album are usually moderately successful overseas. He’s sold 300k wordwide from the last album but 1.6M in the US.
Sorry boo, i know the facts!
MS.CLAY

@Nicky
NO, YOU DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS! YES, HE IS MORE OF AN AMERICAN ARTIST, NOT ONCE DID I EVER SAY HE WAS INTERNATIONAL, BUT HE IS WAYYYY MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN MANY OTHER ARTISTS WILL EVER BE! MAYBE YOU SHOULD RE-CHECK YOUR FACTS AND SEE THAT JAY-Z OVERALL HAS SOLD MORE ALBUMS THAN PROBABLY 75% OF THE ARTISTS THAT ARE OUT TO TODAY (OVER 50 MILLION RECORDS SOLD)! WITH THE INCLUSION OF U2, THE SONG WOULD NATURALLY BE A SUCCESS BETWEEN THOSE TWO!
HOWEVER, I DO AGREE WITH @DE ONE’S LAST COMMENT. THEREFORE, I WILL FOREGO THE REST OF MY OPINIONS ABOUT THIS POST BECAUSE OF IT’S POSITIVITY TOWARDS SUCH AN IMPORTANT MATTER!

I don’t know if Beyonce was promoting the song Halo or not but if she was, so what. She was also lending her voice to a great cause and who says the two are mutually exclusive. All of the celebrities were promoting their careers at some level whether that was their purpose or not. As for the amended lyrics of Halo I think she just wanted to add Haiti to the chorus and that ‘s what she did. She probably did not think people would be analyzing her lyrics to this extent. Lord knows I didn’t closely examine the lyrical content of every song. Purposeful promotion or not, perfectly applicable lyrics or not, it was among the best vocal performances of the night and it was great to see all of the celebrities come together for a good cause.

YAY ms.clay I’m happy that you decide to take a more positive approach it actually made me happy because you don’t want to bring any negative to such a good cause, I mean we all have opinion which we are entitled to but we shouldn’t make them overshadow the situation with Haiti. thank you for being positive

Wyclef is the #1 Haitian. He represented Haitians to the fullest. May God continue to bless this man who loves his country. And we Haitians love him back. Wyclef SAK PASE!

Why do people continue to discuss who was the best singer or who was the best performer of the night? The concert was about RASING MONEY TO HELP THE EFFORTS IN HAITI. SO PLEASE STOP USING THIS BLOG AS YOUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY TO MENTION WHO YOU THINK HAD THE BEST PERFORMANCE, WHEN THIS WAS CLEARLY ABOUT RASING MONEY. THEY ALL DID FINE!!!!!! GROW UP YOU IMMATURE SELFISH MOTHERFUCKERS!

I think this was one of Rihanna’s best performances. I honestly think all the women minus Madonna did very well!! Alicia did sound hoarse a few times, but I think this is one concert where NONE Of us should hate on any of these artists!!! My personal fave was Christina, and Jay-z and Rihanna. Bey as well.. but everybody did an OUTSTANDING JOB!!!

Also, Halo is about a song where she really started to see the real man that she loves, and how beautiful his soul is. YOu can change that and apply it to Haiti, so please shut up!! Also, the line that she says HAiti I can see your Halo sounds nice. so hush and stop talking shit!
