Kelly Rowland has decided to come clean about the real reason for her departure from Columbia Records. The singer has admitted that, despite a press release noting a mutual split, she was in fact dropped from the label. Check out what Rowland had to say about the situation as well as her “civilized” relationship with Beyonce below:
Despite constant rumors pitting them against one another, the “Grown Woman” says she and Beyoncé have remained friends. “We were always civilized,” she tells Entertainment Weekly. “That’s what I’m most proud of. From the rumors to the lawsuits to false accusations, it was really tough.”
Even when legal issues arose with former members LeToya and LaTavia, the two stayed close. “We were strong because we had each other,” she tells the magazine. “There were times when I couldn’t even be strong enough, so I had B. She was the only thing I knew. She was my only friend.”
As for the Destiny’s Child reunion that her former manager Mathew Knowles shut down, Kelly says she would be open to it “if the fans wanted it to happen.”
Rowland also admits in the article that her former label Columbia Records dropped her and it was not a mutual split as the press release stated. “In all honesty, they let me go. The records that I put out probably didn’t perform as well as maybe they wanted them to,” she reveals. “We live in an industry where you’ve got to bring in money. You can’t be pushing out so much money and not bring anything back. I get it.” {Source}
Kudos for Rowland for being honest yet professional about the situation. Unlike many artists who would have used this opportunity to curse out their former label, Rowland is obviously quite wary about the possibility of a future relationship of some form with Columbia.
At the end of the day, business is business and despite her obvious talent, if the label felt that she was not a profitable act then the logicial decision would be to drop her. Great to see that Rowland is not bitter about the situation.

Kelly is one of the few artists that i know who are honest and true to her fans and the public, she keeps it real 24/7 whether it be getting her boobs done, or her Label dropping her or singing about an Ex in her songs, thats why i love her, she comes accross as beautiful inside out..i am Glad commander is charting well and Rose Colured Glasses has started climbing on Itunes 2 days after being released to itunes with no promotion. I love this chick.

Kelly really does come across as such a genuinely nice person and that’s why I really want her to succeed with this new record, she deserves it.

Okay Trent, it’s nice to see you are positive about the situation, but had this been another artist, you would be extremely shady! I mean if you keep it real for everything else, keep it real when it’s concerning Kelly Rowland as well.
Now the Kelly stans can shut up about this woman being as successful as they claim her to be as a solo artist. When you’re dropped from a label that’s a CLEAR indication of a flop. I like Kelly and want her to do well this time around, however, she’s still hasn’t proved much more to me regarding her music/videos/talent. The best thing about her is her personality, she stays extremely positive about all situations and you can tell she’s a very sweet lady. But she’s on that Ciara train to me, this is her last chance IMO.

I think Kelly needs to focus on her own career to the fullest and not think about a DC reunion in the near future because that is all people will know her as-that darker skinned DC chick. I’d rather wait another 5-10 years for that. She remains at peace with Bey, and thats fine, but they still don’t hang like they used to. Beyonce’s only friend is her husband right now and Kelly has found friendship with Brandy, which I think is great because she seems like a great support system. Push forward Kelly and not take 6 steps back like you’ve been doing.

I really want Destiny’s Child to reunite sometime within the near future after they have all done what they have wanted individually (hopefully after Kelly finishes up with releasing singles off her new album), but not because they’re obligated to, I hope they do it because they enjoy performing together. The only thing that worries me is she now says “if the fans want it to happen” because of course we do…even though the media will constantly say “why would Beyonce take a step back..blaaah…blaah….blaaaah” Though I do wish people would stop asking her about DC when she is trying to promote her own album.

First of all that is columbia’s lost! That Ms Kelly album was one hell of an album dammit and they didnt do there job that could have brought some serious dollars in but they didn’t believe in her. that’s there lost though because look at her now most people get dropped and end up out the industry as a whole Kelly found her a new label and now she touring europe promoting a huge dance hit that’s steady rising everyday that’s columbia’s idiotic ways for not realizing her potential and not helping her to achieve the success that we all see rather if you like her or not even a blind person can see that this woman has potential! all she needs is a supportive team to give her a boost of confidence.

Not hating on Kelly, she alway sound great in the studio, anybody could, but her live performances were never that great. The last live performance that I saw her do was in 2008, and that was horrible. I have to admitt, this time around she does sound better now…she either got some voice lessons or she is not singing live.
