The producers of the American Music Awards have decided to kick of this year’s show with a bang. Rihanna is set to open the 38th annual event which airs live via ABC from the Nokia Theatre at 8pm Est on November 21st.There is no word as to what the dentist drill vocalist will be performing but the opening artists usually do extended medleys of their greatest hits (see: Janet Jackson and Christina Aguilera).
Not to worry, those viewers who survive being subjected to Rihanna’s car alarm vocals (or do not change the channel in disgust) will be able to witness real talent later in the telecast when Usher, P!nk and Bon Jovi hit the stage. You have been warned.

First up Beyonce, fresh off taking a ‘vacation’ after a whirlwind 2008-2009 touring and promoting her hit album “I Am… Sasha Fierce’ (not to mention roles in Cadillac Records and Obsessed), is rumored to be covered in an as-yet-untitled special. Oprah, gearing up for the launch of OWN, her network, on the other hand, has officially been confirmed for an interview with Barbara Walters.
“The hour special will explore the past 25 years of both Oprah’s personal and professional life, and will also examine her new network, OWN – just weeks before its January debut – with an exclusive preview of some of its programs,” reports ABC.
“A Barbara Walters Special: Oprah, The Next Chapter” airs Thurs. December 9 at 9pm on ABC.
