Clearly Rihanna is making the most out of her current popularity before her looks fade. We all know that she doesn’t have the talent on which she will need to rely when age takes effect.

Why do you keep mentioning drag queens? I haven’t seen any from the MD shoot. Anyways, I kind of disagree with you. Just to run through her videography, the MOTS videos were okay (cute and age-appropriate), the AGLM videos showed improvement, and then the GGGB and Rated R videos were amazing. The OG (ITW) video was good, but kind of underwhelming, while I thought the WMN? video was a snoozefest. Her outfit was cute, but otherwise it was dull. I liked how cute she and Drake were in it, though. I LOVED the “S&M” video to death, so hopefully this and the CKB video are great.
The OG (ITW) and WMN? videos have definitely grown on me, though.

“Raining Men” wasn’t an official single but only a mere radio single, and the “S&M” Remix isn’t included on the actual record itself. Therefore, this is 5 singles out of 11 tracks. But it’s extremely ironic of you to say that she’s releasing half of her album as singles when Beyonce released more than half with IASF and B’Day.
By the way, Rihanna is hard at work on new material, but more signs point to a new album than a re-release. If there is a new album, it will be released either late this year or early next. She may release more singles from Loud after MD and CKB, though.

I don’t think so. I mean, the album wasn’t critically popular, or popular singles wise. Fearless was an amazing era for her. That album changed where Country stood in mainstream music. She at least deserved ONE Grammy for that album, do I understood why she one some.
However this era is dull as fuck. The only real HIT was Mine, the album was average in the eyes of critics, and after she sold her million in the first week, she dipped. JUST LIKE Trey Songz.

@ Amazing Lee – I totally agree with you! Loud’s videos are a bit disappointing. My favorite so far is WMN, but I’m a little bias because it’s my favorite song off the album. the Rated R era was somewhat better, I liked Rude Boy & Te Amo (RS101 & Russian Roulette, not so much).
People seem to forget how great the GGGB era was (video wise), DSTM & Shut Up and drive, Take a bow & Disturbia were all pretty cool.

Only Irreplaceable, Deja VU, RTA, Upgrade U, & BL were singles. Get Me Bodied charted, but it was never a single. Beyonce may have made videos to the majority of the songs, but they weren’t singles. But radio expecially urban radio did play every song. I remember 106 KMEL would damn near play the whole album every few hours.

I liked beyonce’s IASF but the standard addition of that album was far too abrupt,and felt uncomplete. It aslo exluded some of the best songs on the album (hello, thats why ur beautiful). To me it just seems t me like a cheap way to increase sales.
Rihanna just tweeted that Califonia King Bed vid is coming in less that 10 days. “#CKBvideo comin in less than 10 days #brrrap”. It will be interesting to see if this song+vid can steal the limelight from Gaga and beyonce and reach number 1.

i agree with you but its not part of a musicians job to releae videos, photoshoots etc. Music is music, when you buy an artist album your buying it for the music not the promo. having said that for artist like Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga i think promos arnt even promos. I think they enjoy making videos and see it as part as their craft, part of their art. I think the fans tend to recirprocate that, they ( i kno i do) enjoy seeing artist create themes/events for their albums, hence why so many people use the word £”era” now days. Its more tha just the music, its a massive event filled with visual art, fashion, specified themes/feelings etc. I love it

I know people who don’t even know what an artist’s album cover looks like and have never heard their actual album, yet they claim they’re that artist’s number one fan because they love their singles. If what you said was true album sales wouldn’t be so horrible.

I guess we won’t know until the next awards show, though. I agree with that, too. I also don’t understand why she gets so much praise when she, in fact, writes mediocre songs and has a voice that isn’t as good as many pretend it is. She hasn’t grown AT ALL as an artist, so it’s hard for me to support her in any way. The HBO special is only exciting for me because of the non-tour portions since she’s an interesting individual to hear speak and watch, but I’ve already seen her show so that’s of no use to me. However, it was almost 9 months ago, so I guess it’ll be refreshing.

That song along with SOS solidified rihanna’s career in Dance music. KEsha, katy perry, gaga, they all saw rihanna’s success and started to do that type of music. I agree. Part of the reason I love Rated R (odd example, I know) is because of the lyricism. On a few songs (“Mad House”, “Russian Roulette”, “G4L”), the lyrics are so frightening that I adore them. Like you said, they have to be tasteful. Like the “Obsession” song. Not like Eminem’s “Kim”.
