While eyes of fans and naysayers alike were glued to screens last night for the premiere of Beyonce’s ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ video, R. Kelly protege K. Michelle was prepping the release of the response ‘Worst Man I Ever Had’. The song sees the up-and-coming songstress tackle the popular King B tune with darker lyrics and a gospel-esque vocal performance.

The timing of this ‘release’ was clearly set to capitalize from the buzz around the video – no shade there. However, while the vocal performance in its entirety was applause-worthy, K. Michelle ‘taking the song to church’ (as well as the change in subject matter) may have been overkill for the accompanying instrumental. It was more than obvious that the singer was ‘trying a bit too hard’ in parts.

I had no idea she was R Kelly’s protege. That’s interesting……
Anywho, it wasn’t horribe, but not great at the same time. Her vocals were nicebut it did sound a bit ‘churchy’ at some points. Like she was singing in a gospel choir. I guess the song could have come from a personal place, perhaps she was in a abusive relationship and that’s something that a lot of women can relate too so I guess they may appreciate this version. Me not so much.
She is totally capitalizing on the release of Bey’s video but I can fault her cause a lot of people do that s*** too. Plus not to many people know who she is so how the hell is she gonna get some shine? Good look to her.
I think K has alot of potential but from the various pics I seen of her she just has to find her lane and idenity.

I just need K. Michelle’s company to give her a great track and release it, we all know she can sing. I don’t see what the problem is, there are too many producers out here for people to remake an already made song that just came out WTF. Again when is the creativity!!!! There are thousands on Youtube who can do better.
It’s not that bad a song i think if someone with a sronger voice sang it, it would be slightly better because its such a powerful song with a deep meaning but her voice isnt right for the part.

She’s classically trained in piano and vocal. She’s a bit angry but great singer none the less. I think once she let’s go of the past she will blow up.
