New Song: Nelly Furtado – ‘Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)’ (Full)

Published: Monday 16th Apr 2012 by Sam

It’s finally here!
Nelly Furtado‘s long-awaited comeback single ‘Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)’ premiered moments ago on CHUM FM.

What are you waiting for? Sink your teeth into the Darkchild-baked cut after the jump…

Whoa Nelly! Where to start?

The good? Well, the track’s production is fairly epic and once more reaffirms Furtado’s place as one step ahead of the rest. Indeed, in an age dominated by Electro-Pop, she’s marching to the beat of her own drum (and in select sects, bass). Fierce.

What isn’t, however, the ample dose of “nasal” present in her vocal performance. Renown for her unique sound, this isn’t something new per se. Yet, as is the case with other singers with intricate tones, it takes careful delivery to not turn down “OMG she sounds like a chipmunk” avenue. An avenue we’re not sure she avoided with this particular cut.

That said, the song goes hard. Here’s hoping it strikes it lucky at radio.

‘Hoops’, which is lifted from Furtado’s new LP ‘The Spirit Indestructible’, hits iTunes tomorrow (April 17th)!

It’s cool. Vocally, it’s what I expect from Nelly. It’s crazy bc she chooses to sound that way and I don’t love it. the other thing is, this kind of sounds like a Timbo/Danja track. Sometimes I love when Rodney swagga jacks(i.e. the best timbo track ever “Brandy’s Anybody”). the ending was cool, but it was giving me Bjork vibes. and it didnt even come as hard. overall…. I won’t be downloading this. it my work in a club or something… around last call 😉

omg,i loved the snippet more than the actual track :/ how is that so? I don’t get it,she’s sounding VERY VOCALLY CHALLENGED a la Rihgoat/Kesha(not a good look coz Nelly can actually sing!). and I actually love this woman and her music,i think this is a grower, for now,I AIN’T FEELING IT,SORRY BOO.

I love it actually! As I pointed out after listening to the very first snippet, the song’s biggest advantage is the production and its only flaw is the vocal performance, BUT after listening to the final track, I think that her vocals and her tone grew on me a lot on this particular track to me. They suit the beat, sort of like ‘Maneater’ in 2006! I think noone will find her tone annoying after 2-3 listens 🙂

I love Nelly and really like the songs but dare I say I got a little rihanna feel from it. That hurt.

Nelly Furtado is not really singing here, she is more like… talking. She does this on purpose though, and it works for this song.

Her voice sounds cute when she sings “I can move fast, I can move slow”.

I have a feeling that her new album will be very diverse. Nelly will talk, sing, maybe rap, maybe even yodel.

Out of all the pop singers that can’t sing and/or are not considered “vocalists”, Nelly Furtado is the only one I like.

I can’t wait to buy Nelly’s album. I will listen to “Big Hoops” while doing my jogging outside! This sound hypes me up! Makes me wanna go to the park now and go for a fast run!

    @ AYO

Nelly Furtado has been making this kind of music before Rihanna was even born.

It’s hilarious to me how “oldies” continue to be accused of copying the wannabe “newbies”. IT’S THE OTHER WAY AROUND, YOU FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. big headphones, the bigger the better April 16, 2012

The bass in this song is the most amazing, purest, epic bass I have ever heard in a pop song.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS FREAKING NEW SONG!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish Spirit Indestructible was in stores TODAY!!

  18. YOOSONDALOOSE April 16, 2012

WOAHAHHAHAHAHAHA FIREEEEE BABBBBYY NEEDS TO BE LONGER!

  19. POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 16, 2012

the beat is DOPE ! like really DOPE.

the worst thing about it is that Nelly is the one who’s singing in it , if it was ” Rihanna” or “rita ” who’s singing then it would have been just perfect , cuz nelly’s vocals in it are not the business. 😡

  20. Mike April 16, 2012

Are you all kidding me? This is AWFUL. It sounds like it should have been a B side to her single Promiscuous from 2006. None of you that hated on Madonna’s album (which despite the wack lead single is actually really good) can like this. Nelly’s voice sounds terribly nasally, the beat is tired and the lyrics are stupid.

  21. Credits April 16, 2012

It’s too high and nasal during the verse. BUT THE OVERALL SONG IS HOOOOTTTTT!!!!!! rodney should have given this to BRANDY, cause then it would have been pitch perfect.

LOVE THIS! SO HOT! RELEVANT AND YET PROGRESSIVE! WE MISSED YOU NELLY AND ARE HAPPY TO GET SOME NEW FROM YOU!
